If this is true they should be able to just "drill out" the sections around the RF sensors and then core them with plastic or something similar in black or dark grey. As they are downward facing no-one would notice anyway, and you would get the OEM trunk functionality.

I know he's saying that, that's the whole problem! I'm saying its crazy that the M Performance, Mode Carbon, RKP etc diffusors don't allow for this functionality with all their research and upfront costs and meanwhile some knockoff chinese diffusor comes along and retains OEM functionality!

Well definitely post some pics if you get it. I don't care what company makes the diffuser as long as it looks good, doesn't totally break the bank, and if possible retains the foot functionality.

Hope someone designs a diffuser that will work, only thing holding me back at this point. It's a shame cause that's probably the one piece needed to really complete the look of the car.

I had the same issue originally too until I RTFM. It requires 2 motions - foot under and foot back out in quick succession to trigger the sensor. Once I figured this out, it works 100% of the time. If you just stick your foot under and wave it around, it will never work. Just one quick under and out motion right in the middle of the rear bumper and it opens 100% of the time for me.

Yeh just kick in and out like kicking a soccer ball
I think you need to have Comfort Access which is standard on all the ones in Australia. |

If you swipe your foot in and out it, won't always work, but placing your foot their and swiping it out works 100% for me. And yes must have comfort access and key in pocket/purse/hand/fanny pack. |

Erratic behavior of M Peformance diffuser and kick trunk feature
I installed M performance diffuser the other day, and the kick feature has started to behave erratically. Sometimes, it will just open up when I am right behind the vehicle. If I put my hand under the gap between the diffuser and the bumper, the trunk would open (also sometimes). And today, it went cuckoo, and the trunk kept on opening itself every time I closed it.
I know that kick feature doesn't work after the M performance diffuser install, but why does it behave this erratically? It's driving my OCD crazy! |

This happens to me as well, but it's after I opened the trunk already and trying to close it. It opened like 3 times. And sometimes it Won't do it. Maybe it's the sensor where the diffuser is. Only solution I came up with is keeping the key away from me when dealing with the trunk hehe

Was drying the car the other day after washing it and it must've opened up about 10 times. Was a little annoying at one point. No idea what's doing it. Sometimes it's fine. Others it has a mind of its own.

Yup. Carbon fiber is conductive. This acts as an RF shield preventing the kick sensor from "seeing" your foot. It is a known thing that the installation of the OEM carbon diffuser will disable the kick feature. There is a workaround someone has come up with that moves the sensor closer to the back side of the diffuser. You can search for that thread.

BMW released the diffuser last year with a note saying the kick function will be "disabled" when installing the diffuser due to the RF frequency being blocked.
