It's always interesting to hear testimonials from people who state that they miss their V8 M3's (...in general, not specifically in this particular thread). I often wonder why they didn't just keep them in the first place or buy another one to replace it. I don't think a single day goes by where I miss my E9X's.

With a loan, at least I can say I own 78.3% of the car. Moneywise I can't deny leasing seems a better deal though.

The car is not V8. But it has a loud, unique sound from the factory. It doesn't sound 'amazing,' but it's more than acceptable; especially when putting some load with all windows down on a smooth quiet road, I get quite happy.

OP, this car is truly the all-around best bang for your buck. Everyday I fire up the engine I again remember why I love it so much. Engine, the 6MT, the exhaust note(flaps forced open 24/7), the exterior, the interior, the fun factor and driving experience trumps everything in its class.

it's a great car, but I honestly had to mod it for it to feel great. the stock exhaust was just too quiet/anemic/didn't stir the soul (then again, e92 needed a modded exhaust too). The gobs of power on tap is a new kind of fun that the e92 didn't really have.

The engine doesn't seem as laggy since i started driving it as an S65, keeping the rpm in the sweet spot, like what some car journos said that it'll pull from any rpm range but below 4k rpm,it's laggy similarly to a S65 being gutless below 4k rpm.
You have to work at it to have little lag, like you have to work at it to have any torque with the S65.

This car just looks badass, i installed spacers 18mm all around, thanks Kevin from EAS, great customer service. My last year owning the E92 M3, it became invisible, rarely got any compliments. With this car, you get tons of stares ( i mean that look of envy) and compliments.

The one thing i don't like about driving my M4, it's like it brings out the worst in some people. It's like ladies in Honda CRV's wanna make a point of passing you or blocking you, pickup truck guys are just as bad. Surprisingly kids in WRX's etc tend to be nice around me. When i drive my Jeep GC i don't get this.

So happy i got the car.
How do you get the valves ( on exhaust) unplugged? Will dealer do this for you?

People complain about the cold start noises, yet a buddy at work has a new Merc GLA45 AMG, same noise on cold start up. Another has a Merc C350, same on cold start up. My old 335i, same cold start up. Seems like it's an ordinary thing these days.

Nope but lots of DIY threads on how to do this. just google and you'll see. You can also buy various modules where you can open or close the flap at will. The cheapest and simplest of these is the VSC-2 device sold by
cg precision.

There are detailed specifics listed elsewere but the short and sweet is efficient mode will keep the valves closed for the most part. Sport and sport plus the valves will stay open most of the time. When open half the exhaust will bypass the muffler.

Am I the only one who thinks cold start with the valves open sounds badass? (crank up and idling mind you. does sound farty under throttle...)

I haven't heard it with the valves open per see. I have switched the setting and gave it throttle, but not sure if it may kick it into a non start up setting. I have noticed the sounds changed depending on it you let it do it's thing versus revving it a few times.

Yes if it's cold and the valves are open it sounds farty, just like the S54 did. Nature of the beast I always tell myself.

That's the way I start my car everytime. Rattles my garage and probably pisses off my neighbors.

Save the $200 for other mods unless you want instant access to open/closed valves.

OK, next newby question. I've only test drove the M4 once. What is the louder more throaty rumble for 10-15sec when you first turn the car on from cold?

It's the cold start with the valves closed. If you think that's loud, open the valves first before you hit start. (hit the ignition once, select sport or sport+, hit and release the accelerator, then turn the car on)

The whole lease VS finance thing also seems to be a big pile of warm dung because you can walk into any dealership right now and have them draft up a lease contract for most any CPO e90/2/3 M3's if you wanted. It's really a non-argument.

No one is butt hurt over anything. You just seem to like to have it both ways and not expect to be called out on it. I on the other hand, find it healthy to highlights the hypocrisy and contradictions every once in a while.

Damn, somehow I missed your response until today and now I don't care anymore. That sucks. Call me out on something else some other time and we can get back at it.

In the meantime I'm on the south shore of Maui and this beer is calling me out, so I gotta deal with that whole mess. FYI it's hard to sign your name in pee on the sand.

I may not be completely sober.
