Any software version possible.
It is simple. Go to your service center and ask to get the updated version of your entertainment.
You will be updated hopefully to the Q version and then for $48 on ebay there is a few people that offer the code to get full screen

What i find very interesting is that to update the idrive version is only thru a service center or is there a remote code offering from someone in here.

You the man.

Great to work with and super fast communication.

For you guys looking to upgrade, I was on NBT EVO version Q. Had my dealer update it last month.

You'll also need a obd2 ENET cable and a laptop.

Took 5 minutes to flash.

I also inquired regarding local shops and they also use the same online services. I used bimmer-tech and they were perfect. They remotely logged in my laptop and did the wide screen patch ~ 5min.

Well ios13 is still beta. When it's full release, I'm sure 99% of the issues will be resolved 🥴

I tried ios13 beta 1 for a few days and it was awesome But had some bugs which was a deal breaker for me.

If it's ios13 related that fine.

I wanted to see if I'll feel performance degradation if I go from [ios13+default CarPlay] -> [ios13+full screen]

This went fairly smoothly for me. I received a file to download, got it on a PC, connected the ENET cable and just installed it. Took about 5 minutes. First try failed, second try worked great. Pretty straightforward and the most inexpensive option I found from searching around. I have revision R of the EVO software. Very happy and kubax86 was very quick in his responses and easy to work with. Thanks for your help!

Finally did it. Bought the activation from
kubax86.

1) ENET cable (bought from amazon)
2) Windows OS. I have Mac. Installed parallels with windows 10. It's free during trial period
3) solid internet connection. I used my iPhone as hotspot.
4) usb-c to Ethernet dongle

Once you send the money via PayPal to
kubax86 (PM him for more info), he will send you a link to download the software. It's tied to your VIN number and he said I can use it twice.

Open windows and install the software. Connect the ENET cable to your laptop and your car's obd connector. If using parallels or VMware, make sure to select connect directly to windows as opposed to bridge mode.

Once connected, click "Find Vehicle". It should find your car (will display VIN number). Click on "identify". It will try and connect to some cloud server and start downloading stuff. This takes a minute. After that click "Start" button.

The process will take a good 5 minutes. Make sure your laptop doesn't go to sleep, don't turn off your car. Just relax and watch the progress. Your entertainment unit will restart a few times, will blackout, will show blue screen, will show "No Signal" for a while and finally it will come up and you will see "Success" on the screen.

Once finished you have your full screen CarPlay.

I'm running ios13, so I have the latest greatest and it's just awesome.

See pictures for more info.

Good luck.

Thumbs up to kubax86 . Fast response, cheapest option and works perfectly on R version EVO as well.

I've got a 2017 X5 and mine says NBTevo_J16383I

Do I need to have the dealership upgrade me to something newer?

I had the dealer update mine from nbtevo_j to nbtevo_p. At the time the patchable versions for full screen CarPlay was n, o and p.

Yes, you need to update your software, and dealer should upgrade to the newest version (R).
Have a good day.

On the other hand, for a clear screen, JVC KW-M730BT and Pioneer AVH-3300NEX could also be great recommendations. Especially, if you are looking for cheap chocie then Pioneer AVH-3300NEX is the best.
This discussion is regarding the Oem 10.25" navigation HU w/CarPlay and not aftermarket solutions 🥴
