So many of these models from BMW seems so silly lol.
Found out that apparently the V6 that is in the Lotus is the Toyota's V6. So... iuno if that is good or bad... Rennlist people are mentioning about Lotus reliability issues although it isn't like Porsche hasn't made mistakes with 718 and 911 recently either lol. Also remembered that Lotus got a huge injection of $$ from some company recently that may have helped them overcome stuff so... maybe this is the time to do it. I was reading up on Mitsubishi and it made me sad. Going from Evo and 3000 GT to two big controversies, yikes.

From what I know and read,
late 90s, Mitsubishi's SUV and Truck division was caught hiding defaults and problems with their trucks. These trucks are mainly from the Asian countries that you don't see around here in the States. It wasn't just one of those, a few years thing, they been hiding the problem since late 70s. Then I think mid to late 2000s, they admitted to falsifying fuel economy on their cars, which was the last straw that lead to them being scooped up by Renault-Nissan. Up until that point, they were the 3rd largest car company with Mazda being 4th but apparently they always had money trouble, which is why their car interior seems to be lacking. Even the end of the Evo 10 had interiors that was basically worse than a Nissan at that time which says something. But Mitsubishi, the company, is larger than just the car company. I think, they have many divisions like Samsung but didn't have the cash flow for the car company. I remember reading a long time ago regarding the falsifying fuel economy, didn't know about the trucks and suv issues.

So a little off topic, but may find a home here due to admiration for the Giulia:
Just had some guy winding his exhaust modified Giulia QuattroFormaggio out in 2nd gear down Westlake in Seattle (central area, lots of people just hanging out walking… I was eating dinner outdoors), and man… I just do not think they sound good. Or put another way, I struggle to say that it sounds better than a stock F80 - there are much better sounding turbo V6s (and 6 cylinders in general) out there. The kicker was he ripped a downshift into 1st and it was an insanely pathetic sounding smoothed out downshift from the ZF, not crisp in the slightest like a proper rev match from a manual or DCT. I was sitting there thinking about the ZF: Just to be clear, this isn’t a rip on the Giulia, just an observation about one aspect of it and some dude being a complete door knob in public. I still want to drive one at some point and understand the hype

The hype is real, Definitely find the time to drive one (that's already broken in for maximum fun). The car just feels so alive and eager, incredibly rewarding. Even the Stelvio QV as well as their 4-Cylinder base models are fantastic.

B. The ZF gearbox was the primary reason I didn't trade my F82. The transmission tuning is pretty aggressive, to the extent that it's actually quite hard to brake to a standstill in traffic smoothly. But it has nowhere near the emotional feel that I get from an F82 DCT shifting in 'S3'. (note - I consider S3 borderline dangerous on a track because WOT upshifts will unseat the rear end of the car even in a straight line!) |

My problem with it during that time was two things. I didn't trust the brakes enough and the ZF tranny in those cars are not as good as BMW. The brakes were annoyingly inconsistent, the feedback on those were just not there. Could have changed since then.

The ZF I found to be more pleasant than the tuning in the XM4 ... but the downside was that it tended to fight against the brakes. The engine sounds were definitely an improvement. I think that my overall impression was that is was just a bit too 'edgy' to be comfortable. When I back off a little in my F82 everything immediately goes calm and sedate, but when I back off a little in the Giulia QV, things still feel really twitchy unless you leave the car in 'comfort' mode. |

i'm indifferent about the camry engine. what else is lotus gonna do make their own engine ? probably not something you want.
Its a bit of a different than what toyota did on the supra and 86. They definitely could have built their own motors but they chose to cheap out and use someone elses. |

Lotus has always sourced powertrains from others. Original Seven had a Ford-derived unit. I think throughout the 70s till early 90s, they had their own engines in the S1-S4 Esprits, incl. the V8. But ever since then, it's been either a Rover, Toyota or Honda engine. Gearboxes from all sorts of places, etc.
Y'all gotta remember they're a relatively tiny company that's been through a lot of financial shit and I'm actually impressed they're still in business. Not even 2,000 employees.
