just look at what people have in there "drive" info. the people who love the sound are people who drive anything but a M car. and sure maybe a few E46 M guys are being I6 fanboys.

If you ask me a lot of the current M owners are not happy with the sound. i am sure this kind of exhaust sound was great on a 35k 335i. but on a 80k M car, i don't think so.

it DOES NOT have a premium sound, and WILL not have one with a exhaust. This a BMW also, a premium car.

You sound like a few of the other presumptuous (...and unnecessarily elitist) members here. Just because the 'Drive' info doesn't currently show an ///M car doesn't mean that the person doesn't currently own an ///M, nor does it always indicate whether or not a person previously owned an ///M. Do I have to list all 5 of the ///M3's (..2 E46's and 3 E9X's) that I've owned in order for my opinion to be valid? That's ridiculous.

On a positive note the cars look well designed and I look forward to driving one--more torque, less weight, more CF. All good except sound.
Active sound transmits/enhances ENGINE sound, not exhaust sound...

lets just stop with the generalizations please, it is not constructive at this point.

I have an e9x m3, and enjoy the sound. I also liked the sound of my 1m. I also liked the sound of my e46 m3. I also like the sound from this vid.

Not everyone is going to have the same taste in sound, so lets stop with the hysterics, generalization, us vs them stuff and extreme reactions.

its important to remember that our personal reactions are opinions, not facts. there is no way to quantify something like "premium sound", unless you are strictly speaking about personal opinions.

Absolutely wrong reason to call out and generalize I agree, but this thing sounds like a Maxima! I think we all have different opinions but also think that people generally agree with what sounds GOOD (ie. AMG anything, LS/Coyote, S85, Ferrari anything, Maserati anything, etc).

We should not be arguing about M3 exhaust sound. Even Merc can get a 2 litre turbo to sound good from factory. Its a sports car and should sound good to most people. It should never be comparable to my 335i.

But personally, I would hope none of the "elitist enthusiast M experts" buy these cars because I want mine to be associated with people who love to drive instead of people who love to complain.

ya i understand that some people have owned both. but its like there are threads made in the E9x section. that talk about the M4. while people agree its going to be better on paper. there is a lot of hate with the new engine. And when i come here there is a lot of 335i owners, 535, 135 etc owners who love this car. I am not sure if thats really a good thing for BMW or not.

just look at these threads, i would say E9x owners are the minority in a lot of these topics. and i know the E9x m community is very big on this site.

just a few things i noticed.

That video sounded nothing like the M3. Not even remotely close.

How are you qualifying that though? That's the main point of contention in my response to you. You have no idea what people own or have owned, so how can you purport that E9X owners are the minority????

Four or five videos in a row with questionable sound. I think we already know what M owners aren't going to like in this iteration.

Maybe the speakers can produce something better

I own a 535i. I am allowed to say it sounds sh*t for an M-car? Because it does.

Or is there a certain car you have to own to have an opinion? LOL

Can't imagine BMW have not been working on the sound- it might surprise us all
I'm assuming bmw purposely made it sound bad so u have to buy m performance exhaust. I drive a stock e46 m3 so if it sound anything like it I would be fine.

On an almost $80,000 car you still have to buy an exhaust for it to just sound decent?

E46 M3 does sound great. We all know it's more difficult to get a great sound from a turbo engine vs NA but I'm sure the engineers have considered this problem and hopefully addressed it.

The E46 ///M3 does sound great, and I prefer it to the E9X's exhaust note........but how many people complained about its whiny, tin can rasp when it debuted (..that was rhetorical). People always complain.
