So I had a chance to play with the app and Bluetooth adapter for a little bit today and one word, WOW! Unbelievable how well it works, how simple it is and how quickly you can switch ASD on/off or open/control valves. So much cheaper than all the other options out there! Glad I went this route. Money well spent IMO.

Can you leave the Carista adapter plugged in without draining your battery?
Are their any benefits to using a wifi OBD module over a Carista, other than avoiding home wifi connectivity issues? |

It will draw a little power but not an issue if you don't leave car sitting for long periods of time.
I didn't want to mess with wi-fi so I choose the BT route. It's perfect. |

Just got the Bluetooth dongle, but one thing bothers me and that's security. How easy is it to hack to unlock the car for instance?

The app is awesome so I don't want to take anything away from it. But it would be nice if there were a way it could "code" a permanent default setting into the ECU (not sure if this is possible). |

I've found the app works well. As posted before the only draw back is the ECU will not hold the settings but the app does, just needs to connect. Also have not noticed any battery drain at this time, I've had it for almost (2) week's, it is not my daily driver. Last item the ASD does work, also as posted before I was able to notice it at about 3000 to 4000 rpm, I have a 2016 M3 February build.
Also has anyone played around yet with the BimmerCode App by the same author? Last edited by Chanute; 10-21-2016 at 08:30 AM.. |

just bumping this thread to share my current experience..
tried connecting with a Carly adapter via wi-fi and kept getting an error that the app could not connect to the ECU... contacted bimmerlink support and stated the carly adaptor does not work with their app...they suggested this Vgate 2 adaptor instead https://www.amazon.com/Vgate-Bluetoo...ds=vgate+2+obd I already have the aamzon adapter on order that was linked a few pages back...I'll see how that one goes if not I'll purchase that vgate

In terms of battery drain - I can't speak for the Bluetooth version but with my wifi version it definitely does. I went away for a few days (leaving the adaptor plugged into the OBD port) and when I got back my car said my battery was low. Unplugged it, and haven't had the problem since. |

For these reasons, Bluetooth definitely seems to be the way to go. ESPECIALLY so when the developer implements automatic pairing (which he says he is working on). |

I was under the understanding that the bluetooth adapter issue with the iPhone was an apple block problem on the adapter not the app developer. That is why torque must use a wifi dongle and not a bluetooth. So are we saying folks on here are getting the iPhone to pair with a bluetooth dongle to use this app?

so what I've noticed when connected to the car via wifi (vgate dongle): phone and texts go thru, but email nor any web pages or apps (IG or FB) do not work (no I don't regularly check those pages/apps while driving but was just testing functionality). So basically connecting via wifi to the dongle kills data coming in/out.....IMO this is a dealbreaker..back to my vsc controller....
