  • Stock Charge Cooler / Stock Heat Exchange

There's no doubt that the OEM cooling system on the stock car is quite efficient, but as soon as you start increasing boost and power levels you do start to see increased IAT's and water temperatures.

As soon as we get a day or two with 80°+ F, we'll be back out on the road and at the drag strip to show the recovery benefits of the Heat Exchanger, and the cooling/power benefits of the Charge Cooler.

We'd rather not post incomplete data that inspires more questions than answers, which is why you haven't seen any recent updates.
Any data or updates from testing since weather has been warmer now?

I'm starting to believe that there simply wasn't any conclusive data to suggest this being a worthy upgrade. The silence of CSF and VF Engineering definitely doesn't suggest otherwise. Coincidentally the other day I was talking with one of the largest hybrid turbo manufacturers for the F8X (don't want to address their name), and I asked them if they felt upgrading any of the cooling parts was necessary to complement their upgraded turbos. They mentioned that they've been running CSF's cooling package and they said that upgrading the heat exchanger definitely helped. So I asked them if they saw any performance gains/lower temps from the charge cooler. They responded by saying that they still haven't done enough testing to come to a conclusion. I feel that they were giving a "political" answer to avoid saying anything negative about CSF's charge cooler, but I could and hope that I'm wrong

VF-Engineering and CSF Cooling care to comment on the status of data results? I was interested in this but not without some proof they are worth it.

To be frank, we've been consistently selling out of every production run
before the shipments even arrive. It's been making testing with multiple
cars tough to schedule, and since we've been quite pleased with the initial
data collected, along with what we've seen from CSF's racing clients, the
urgency to rent a track to do more comparative testing has diminished.

For those who may have missed it, you can see the preliminary results
we collected back in Post #59. (click link to jump)

As much as we'd like to sell these Charge Coolers to every S55 on the
planet, this product falls into what we call our "if it ain't broke,..." category.

If you're not currently exhibiting heat soak with the factory charge cooler,
then there's plenty of other ways to spend $1,995!

The OEM charge cooler is no doubt quite efficient at factory boost levels,
and while have hundreds of Stage ONE and Stage TWO customers who
have no heat related issues to mention, those who have met the limits of
the factory unit have been pleased with the results after upgrading.

They said it themselves that it's an "if it aint broke don't fix it" mod. That coupled with the fact that they can't generate data, to me, tells me exactly that.. don't bother changing it if it ain't broke. The factory system is plenty enough for track rats after repeatedly laps in hot weather already.

In that post you/CSF has claimed of some power gains and temp drops, care to post the actual data behind that? Dyno graphs, data collected showing the 15 degree temp drop etc.

It's bucking Photofucket. They now charge $400 a year to hotlink. They rolled this change out quietly. Half the forums and blogs on the internet are now broken.

Went with the CSF top mount charge cooler and heat exchanger combo. It's really a winning combination. Absolutely love mine and I have nothing but positive things to say about CSF products. Quality is like OEM and the install is plug and play using all oem connections. Nothing needs to be modified which is great!

Although I don't have any empirical data to prove it. I can definitely feel the difference on the butt dyno. The car responds much smoother now and it really is a day and night difference. Prior to installing the parts, I could tell when the car would start to heat soak and the slight loss of power was evident. Now, pull after pull the car runs more efficiently and I don't feel any lag or hesitation. Definitely a winning combo.

Here are a few pics of my setup. Got it custom powder coated white with the CSF logo pin striped red for a nice pop of color.

That's given me an idea.

My MSR CAI and Charge pipes are wrinkle black, so I wanted a wrinkle black CSF top mount. I was always considering having the stripes on it and CSF done in Silver so it matched the stock charge pipe cover.

I think if I left the two legs of the "F" black and painted the "I" and added a leg to the bottom in silver it would change the "F" to an "L"

: ) Capiche?
