I have considered the RW Carbon vs the OEM hood from either ECS Tuning or Jake Sweeney BMW in Cincinnati.

Oddly enough, I just got off the phone with the guys at RW Carbon. Upon asking them the weight of their CF hood he said it was under 20lbs. When I pressed him for a specific weight he said based on lifting it up he is guessing it weighs around 18lbs but would need to weight it. I said I would appreciate it because Im a bit OCD to which he interrupted me and said "...if you are OCD then you better get the OEM because mine is not a perfect fit." Also mentioned their manufacturing method is a wet-lay (not autoclave) in Taiwan.

I appreciated his candor and promptly removed RW Carbon's GTS Hood from consideration.

Total cost with shipping:
ECS Tuning $4512.16
Jake Sweeney BMW $4300.83

Either option is about $800 more than the RW Carbon at $2,999.95 unless you chose to get the FRP at $1,999.95. https://www.********.com/bmw-f80-m3-...tyle-hood.html

Parts Required:
GTS CF Hood #41618068159
Hood Grid #41618068158
Stop Buffer #51237291089 (2)
Gas Struts #51238066092 (2)
Adjuster #51767183752 (2)

Hey,

"Jake Sweeney" will not ship.

And, "ECS" is not your least expensive option!

Cheers!

An ECS Tuning Rep quoted me that it weighs 7.5kgs / 16.5lbs.

Would love to know the weight on the stock AL hood.

Just watching this vid on the m4 cs and noticed bmw may have made some running changes to the gts (now cs only) hood

@35s you can see there is no visible weave through the 4 indented sections

I assume the top painted layer is now frp vs carbon on gts as its the underside of the top layer that is showing as solid black under the hood = cheaper manufacturing costs for non limited production cs

The M4 CS Flyer states that the CFRP hood is 25% lighter than the stock hood

My hood arrived, purchased through my local dealer and arrived in a few days via air freight from bmw Germany

Was worried it was going to have the partial frp underside like the cs cars, but so glad to find it's the proper gts full carbon version

looks great. Whats the overall weight savings as compared to the standard hood? When you ordered it were you able to choose the pain colour, or will you take it to a shop?

not sure the weight difference, tbh it's not the reason i bought it, more so wanted it for the design and uniqueness (especially since it's the proper GTS full carbon version vs the frp/carbon CS version)

they come prepared from factory for paint, the topside is already in undercoat. if anything, my panel shop will probably just do another undercoat and sand to get the peel to match the rest of the car before paint, but from looks of it, it doesn't need it

What does the top of the hood look like before paint?

I'm very happy with the paint match and the fitment. Those were my two biggest concerns.

It is amazing that there are a few options to have the same style hood at a lower cost since F8X parts will wreck your wallet. lol. If you can save and get oem, I would recommend that over aftermarket. I will say that hood is very functional for heat extraction. All the air funnels into the mirrors and its noticeable front downforce at higher speeds.

Tested at thunder hill a few weeks ago.
Car looks great. What wheels and tyres are you running? What sizes etc.

At the time I had 20s front and rear. 275/30/20 f and 295/30/20 r

I moved to 20/19 gts spec because there are more options for sticker compound tires. 265/35/19 f and 295/30/20 r

Here is a more current photo.

There must be a hidden code in the ordering system to separate the CS from the GTS hood as this “update” in build material is more than radical enough to keep the same price and P/N.

When I ordered mine it came up as gts hood, there was no mention of cs

I just think it's a running change to cut production costs.

Not sure how that will effect gts owners down the road if they have to order a replacement

BMWAG lists the same P/N for both GTS/CS hood so far. Either there must be something additional to the P/N that separates the full CF and the CFRP versions or simply there is a not yet published P/N for the CFRP version.

For sure, the pricing must be different.
