I was driving through Wilton, CT on Route 7 on Friday and i saw for the first time with my own eyes an F10 M5. I was directly behind it at a light and when it accelerated, it sounded like a V8 M. It was more subdued than the S65 and the previous M5 but without a doubt, it had that growl. Now, i dont know how this 6 would sound in comparo but i was pleasantly surpised at the sound and wondered why they even bothered to put that in cabin engine sound.

They pipe in the sound because the car is insulated so well. Newest video June '13 of the M3 actually sounds pretty good, nice full tone to it. I like it. Don't love it like the E9x, but I like it.. |

Exhaust could be better but videos never really do justice, but power wise bmw under rated the m5 and lets not forget to hp improvement from just a tune, my guess is with some modding the new m3/m4 will easily reach 500hp

M is struggling to make their turbo engines sound good. The AMG M157 sounds great just in stock form. |

You must be smoking the same stuff as the marketing bean counters at BMW. Go buy a base 335i M-sport if you want practicality and efficiency. |

I love it.
I'm glad it's a 6 (although I do love the S65) I think it looks like a P90X version of my car The sound can always be improved upon with aftermarket exhaust. None of us can drive as well as the professional test drivers we see in these videos-the car has plenty of power. |

sounds pretty damn good for an I6 if you ask me. it's obviously not going to sound as good as a V8 so keep crying boys.
oh to be a bmw test driver, what a gig.

That sounds absolutely disgusting. Its so droney and it has absolutely no intake sound. I mean seriously, what in the f*ck have these beer... I mean sound engineers been doing for the past 3 years? If anything its gotten worse!
This is what a BMW inline six should sound like. |

Sounds like a deeper version of my E46 M3... it's certainly growing on me.
In my E92 M3 Coupe I really felt the need for more power coming out of the corners - this engine is sure to deliver the kind of performance the M3 deserves. Can't wait to try one out!

At 0:26 you can see the rotors turn red. I love seeing that lol. Too bad it sounds like a 335i with the performance exhaust.

na v8
and a turbo's 6. u can't compare in sound. v8's are distinctive. just as long as the new f80 don't over heat on the track, better brakin, steering, and suspension. without going to much aftermarket. and lots of headroom for future power.

Each post about how terrible it is that the next M3 won't have a V8 anymore cancels out a post about how real BMWs only have inline 6 engines, and we have no forum left.

I think it's just an overdue move of the M3 to it's own codename. M3s has always been quite different. For example I think I read that the current M3 only shares about 20% overall with it's non M siblings. That's probably not far from what for example a Cayenne, Toureg and Q7 shares...
