My badge came from the factory slightly off level, and I spent like 3 weeks staring at it before finally deciding to order a new one and fix it. When I went to order one, I found the "competition" one through IND and ordered it. I don't really care if it "doesn't belong there." Marketing scheme or not, I like it, so it's staying.
P.S. Also didn't come with a spoiler, but blasphemy be damned, I slapped that on there too. |

I bought the M5 Comp badge. Gonna probably install during the holidays, but I don't like the white lettering. Gonna have it painted gray or something.

Do it. At least you'll have fun watching people get triggered.

It's the 12.5cm one that's an exact fit for the M4. I got the shorter one by mistake to start with, maybe put that on the front. Even comes in proper BMW packaging with part number etc.

Why are some people so mad about people putting the Competition badge on there? Because it didn't come that way from the factory?
I don't have any interest in putting it on mine, but what's the difference? The Competition package on an F8X changes the same things as it does on the M2/M5/X models for the most part, no? Different tune, suspension, seats, exhaust, drive settings, rear diff settings, etc. It may be a "package" for the F8X instead of a "model" like the others, but it consists of the same changes. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see the big deal.

Label recognition, we’ve been so mind fk’d by advertising that we feel slighted if we don’t get the recognition for what we have. It ultimately makes us feel better about ourselves, filling in those insecurities that creep in, “why not me too”.

I have no interest in putting a badge on my car because I don't care enough, but I also don't care enough if to find it lame if someone else does it. Whether it's a package or a model name, it's still the same thing in what it changes on the car To each their own though

It's an OEM badge and I have an OEM M4 competition. I understand it's technically a "fake badge" since only the M2/M5/M8/X3M/X4M/X5M/X6M competition come with it... but I have a 2020 M4 and I feel the only reason they didn't add the "competition" badge with the newer M4s is because it would be "unfair" to the 2017/2018 M4 competitions that came out before the new badging scheme started.
That being said, I think it's a totally fair addition... it's still an M4 competition; and I think it looks great.

I guess the M2 is not an F87 then?

So....final conclusion...definitely put the competition badge on right?
All joking aside. The thought came across my mind when I saw it on the M5. It was really only after this thread I understood the ZCP was a "package" and not a model. Still not sure beyond the paperwork, what the difference is. Also forgot the e92 had a competition package as well and I don't see any e92 zcp verbiage around. Now i'm thinking i should stop referring to my M3 as an "M3 ZCP". |

I've been giving this some thought for a little bit now.. I guess the reason BMW did this is because they are diluting the M brand and need a way to add another tier. M4 and the M4 competition
Kind of like what Benz is doing with the AMG line.. AMG C43 anyone?

I actually think BMW came up with the idea of enhancing model names with Competition keyword - as a smart marketing technique, since Mercedes started putting “S”s like C 63 “S”. So M5 was the first one they integrated the package into model name.
As a 2018 M4 owner I’d have no reservations to put on the “competition badge” if BMW sold them. |
