Is the brake warranty a scam on brand new lease?

Just picked up 2019 M4 ZCP. The car is a lease 36 mos/10k miles/year. I plan to drive the car fast but not that hard. I like it for the acceleration and I don't typically wear brakes hard. How likely is it that I will need new brakes before turning in the lease in 3 years?

The finance employee was trying to sell me an $1100 brake warranty. I have til Monday to decide. She also told me that replacing the brakes costs $2200. In addition, she said she has an M6 and she wore the brakes out at 18,000 miles but she said she drove the car very hard.

Are they just trying to up-sell me??? What is the average life expectancy on the standard brakes? They are NOT CCB.

Thank you in advance!

They are trying to upsell you. Traded in a 2015 with 25k and the brakes had a lot of life on them. Car was a daily driver that had some spirited runs but never a track day. If your driving style is normal and you don’t track it, you will be fine. The M6 is a hog compared to this car.

Your lease as described allows you 30,000 miles. The chances that you will need brakes in that period of time are zero.

Edit: lol @ the finance weenie who wore out her M6 brakes in 18,000 miles. was she using the pedal for a foot rest while dragging an anchor?

Actually not any more. After 2016 the wear items such as brakes, clutch, and o.m.g. the wiper blades are no longer covered as part of the maintenance plan. (Edited , I wrote 2014, which was completly wrong)

and the maintenance plan does not transfer to when you sell the car -only if you purchase from a BMW dealer. (edit, starting in 2015)

EDIT: OP - you are being scammed. The Ultimate Care + which covers these wear items is $600. Go to build your own on BMWUSA.com and you will see it on the last page.

Agree with everyone else here. Hard Pass on this one.

I have a 2016 M4, nearly a Daily Driver, plus some track time. 36K in 2 years and the computer says "100000 miles left" for the brakes. Even the service advisors tell me there's a lot of life on them when we do the walk-around.

Hope you don't buy into it!

Thanks for the input. I'm definitely not buying it now. I thought it was strange so I'm glad I held off. Thank you!

2016 maintenance plan still covered brakes. Not sure on some of the other items.

Brakes are no longer covered since 2017 models

And I also should have remembered the 2017 changes since I ended up with a 2017 M2 and knew that would not have the brakes covered - but/and, I was emailing after a 24 hour journey to Asia Pacific.

The fact is, people make mistakes sometimes and you don't need to be an ass about correcting them - rarely are they done on purpose.
Yeah I understand. It gets frustrating seeing incorrect information posted on this forum (daily basis) and that's why I was being being a dick about it. I hope people read multiple replies/research themselves so they don't potentially get the wrong information (and believe it). Sorry again, edited my original post.

Wow. That's a new low for "finance managers". It's straight up disrespectful how little regard they have for the intelligence of their customers

Why is it disrespectful when the brake service is no longer continued free

because brakes are not going to wear out in 30k miles, and the cost of this product they are peddling is almost twice that of Ultimate Care +

or am i missing something?

That may be true and it may be a bad choice to buy the brake warranty, but it is a product offered by BMW and it was offered to the OP. Doesn't make it disrespectful.

i thought it was a third-party warranty, not offered by BMW, that the person was trying to push over the BMW product (UC+), which is almost half the cost and offers far more coverage than just brakes. did i misunderstand it?

if i didn't, i would find it disrespectful that this dealership would assume i'm a moron for not being able to see that this product has close to zero value; and that they would try to steer me away from a 'better' product that they seem to be franchise duty-bound to at least make me aware of.

you seem to be taking issue with my use of the word 'disrespect'. that's fine, but i'm just explaining my opinion. i also have these "finance managers" regularly try to explain numbers to me on stuff like extended warranties in a deceitful manner, where said numbers don't even add up.

So IF you burned through the front brakes in the 3 years, I am going to guess the tears will be fine for more unless your driving to the point your MDM or traction control is on all the time. At the track I get a 2 to 1 ratio on my rear to front brakes.

IF you need to do brakes, you can buy the parts on line cheaper than the dealer and take it to an independent shop to replace them. To replace the pads, it takes maybe 5 min and axel. To replace the rotors, you probably ad 45 min. You can get the fronts done for a much cheaper price.

If you are worried about lease turn in, there are always people selling stock brake parts on the forums. Just check at year 2 how the brakes look/life left. If there close, start looking for replacement parts

Some people actually do wear out brakes around 30k miles. I see many lease returns every month, and some of them do show brakes due. We refer the lessees to have the service performed before turning them in as BMW can charge $750 for any maintenance or warranty items that still show due when they’re turned in. Also, it’s $600 and $700 MSRP for the 36 mos / 36k mi plans that cover brakes and wipers. Depends on the VIN. Wanted to clarify that $700 can be a real figure in case you hear it.

In my own case, my 15 F80 showed 100k mi till brake replacement due and my 18 F80 ZCP shows only 47k mi till brake replacement due. Pretty significant difference!

The usual stealership BS. I witnessed how a sales girl in BMW mountain view tried to sell M3 to 70+ grandma while she was looking at 3 series, she was really pushy
