Humming drivetrain at 50-60MPH

Sounds like a diff, but not 100% sure.

It's a light but noticeable humming electrical noise when on a light throttle cruising around 50-60MPH in 5/6th gear only.

Is this common and ok, or is this a symptom of something not working right?

Many Thanks

i notice this in any gear at or just above 2K rpm and attribute it just to the resonant frequency of some part(s) in the drivetrain. it's always done that. and it's not loud enough to annoy me.

Yep I've heard this on my car too on highway

But it's too random/infrequent to take into dealer to diagnose

I've just accepted this drivetrain makes noises, especially the odd clunks from the dct like my r35 GTR did, if something mechanically fails then I'll worry about it

Does it sound like a light sounding siren for you? I have kind of noticed this more recently. Some people say it's the differential. Mine happens at low gears as well.

Same here. Makes me feel better that others have experienced this. I wonder if it’s “normal”.

I get a light whine, most notable at very low speeds like manoeuvring into a parking spot. If I turn the air con off it changes or disappears so figured it's a tensioner or the compressor doing its thing. Gets louder on hot days, but agree this isnt a mechanically quiet car. I'll get it looked at during the service but they'll probably tell me it's normal haha

actually i have noticed this recently as well. does not seem to change with different engine RPMs or HVAC on/off and it's definitely not the drivetrain at these very low speeds. the frequency doesn't increase or decrease with speed either.

so I’ve mentioned it to my SA and they called me back with decision to replace it. Personally I would’ve liked a little more analysis into what’s actually wrong with it before the buzzsaws came out but since I was doing the driveshaft recall I’ve agreed. It took over full day as it’s a bitch to get it out. Hope to pick up today to report on this more

Active Sound also makes strong hum at low throttle input when the car really isn't under significant load at 40-70mph. Trying deactivating ASD through coding. The diff does make noise as does the trans. But ASD exacerbates the hum. I turned it off and loved it more since.

ASD was coded off from day 1.

got car back, no more noise. Have to go back in 1200 mi. to change break-in oil from the new diff

This is for 6 speed and at cruising speeds only, not parking lot
