Repainted Bumper doesn't match rest of Alpine White car
I got in a fender bender a few weeks ago, and had to get my car repaired. They had to repaint the front bumper, and when I picked it up today I could immediately tell that the new paint doesn't match the original alpine white at all. As I'm sure all of you know, AW is more of a flat and bright white.
The new paint on the bumper looks shiny, sparkly, and just a little more dull of a white. Like mineral white actually. Its really easy to notice because the hood is still the original alpine white. I asked the body shop guy and he said that's because we were looking at it in the bright sun and its a fresh coat of paint vs the rest of the car which is about 3 years old. And he said Geico doesn't pay for blending of the paint, so thats another reason. So my issue is, is it worth it to go back and have them repaint it for this? Does it look that bad to the rest of you? I'm not sure if its worth the effort because the car is a lease and I'm returning it in May. Do you think this paint match issue will be a problem when I return it? The body shop guy did say that if theres a problem when I'm returning the car that they will take care of it as the repair comes with a lifetime guarantee, but who knows. I'll try to upload a picture now even though its dark, and I'll post another one tomorrow when its bright outside. Thanks for your help! EDIT: Daytime pics in the sun for better reference, even though it seems the night pics were definitely enough for the consensus that it looks MW. Called the body shop this morning and they said I can bring it back today and they'll get me set up with a rental and have it repainted over the weekend. Hopefully its better this time! And looks like they also repainted my IND alpine white reflectors, but didn't repaint the headlight washer caps, which shows the clear difference in color. Call your insurance company immediately!
Advise them of your dissatisfaction and request they help you in getting the shop to respray it. Call the body shop manager, even the GM if it's a dealer! Did you take the car to a reputable shop? Did you take it to an OEM Dealer, etc.? The vehicle needs to be fixed to like quality prior to the accident, plain and simple. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. Some people accept shit back and the only place that wins is the shop. They end up losing money to not fix it right the first time & take short cuts.

They painted your bumper in Mineral white.
The guys in body shop need eye examination. Did they also painted the orange reflector or you have IND painted reflector before?

Man I had a feeling that it was mineral white from the moment I saw it. I even mentioned that to him when I picked it up, saying that there are 2 shades of white that this car comes in. Are you sure you used the correct alpine white? And he said that they used the correct color code they got from the VIN number.
Regarding the reflectors, I had the IND painted ones and they weren’t damaged, so I’m pretty sure they didn’t replace/repaint those. I’ll check tomorrow morning and upload more pictures in the daylight though. Looks like I’ll be calling the body shop and Geico back tomorrow morning. What a mess, it took 2 weeks for them to do the repairs, no idea how long this painting will take them. And it’s probably partially my mistake, I didn’t take it to a certified BMW body shop, I just did the place Geico recommended for their service express. They tempted me with the ease of rental car pick up/drop off etc. And since I only have a few months left on the lease wasn’t too worried, but didn’t think they would make such a big mistake. |

BMW Certified means they just have access to the repair manual lol which any bodyshop already has access too. It doesn't really mean much at all.

Can't believe they didn't spot this or did and are trying to lie to your. The headlight washers are a dead giveaway.

Unless the body shop has access to more detailed info than a VIN-Decoder, it doesn’t surprise me it’s wrong. 12 chances out of 13 it would be. |

If it's a rear bumper it'll never match anyway....even BMW can't match them.

Consensus is clear OP, I actually guffawed when I clicked on the first pic. Looks horrible, definitely make them and/or Geico fix it.

I got hit, front and rear resprayed bumpers. Front match is great, very close. Rear matches in some lights/directions and not great in others. Looking back at old photos and other MW cars it's always been that way (albeit the respray is slightly worse).

wow that's bad. they definitely repainted that mineral white.
luckily alpine white is an easy color match. All the other f80 colors are nearly impossible to match 100%.
