Odd whistle noise? (any suggestions)
So I have had this weird “Wooo wooo” whistle noise coming from my f80 for a bit of time now. It’s hard to catch on video properly but I tried my best. I seem to notice it ALWAYS when I begin to put on the throttle before any boost really begins to come in. and when i let off. In the video i basically tap the gas a bit then let off and it does the noise nonstop. Anyone have any ideas what this could be caused by? I am seriously confused and lost. I have the interchiller kit and when I run it with the cooling I don’t really hear the noise but otherwise normal driving its been there for a decent bit of time. I wouldn’t say there is any loss of power from the car though since this noise began. whistle noise

Any fix? my car is at the shop being diagnosed for this issue currently. We tried a handful of things with the airboxes, no help. I really only hear the woo noise when i start to put on the gas and the turbo begins to spool, when I let off quickly, or when I am cruising at a set speed it’ll be there.

If its coming from the engine bay it may be your valve cover they tend to make a whistle sound from the vacuum when they start leaking or have a crack.

I had the valve cover swapped when I did the crank hub, i wouldn’t be surprised it cracked again? any preventive you see to prevent that happening again if that’s the cause?

They are plastic so they dont last forever. If you just had it replaced it could just be from the install gasket or valve cover itself.

Thank you for the insight! From what my shop found today WG 1 and 2 were out of tolerance by 1mm, along with my dinan airboxes coming loose again. Hopefully this fixes it if not I will be looking back to the valve cover

Yes it’s held boost fine the whole time, i’ve taken it to the strip with the weird noise and didn’t feel or see any loss of power. I have a boost gauge so I’ve studied it and i haven’t seen it necessarily drop. Noise really only kicks in before boost kicks in/ the turbos start to spin or while i’m holding it at a set rpm and driving a certain speed.
