Other than the obvious horse mouth the car has,
The one thing that really bothers me about the design is how from a rear side profile, the fenders tapers inwards. It looks like the car was put into a shallow compactor and crushed slightly. Pair it with that big mouth bass lower fascia, weird looking fake vent/badge/whachamacallit, and a square obnoxious diffuser to tie the whole weird look together.

No, I understand perfectly. It doesn't look better in person. Not sure why people keep saying that. The BMW fanbois want to like this car so badly, it's sad. It reminds me of some of these sucker politicians who keep knowingly telling lies with a straight face.

The new M4 is just ass looking. The door handles look way off. The fender badge is very gaudy looking. The horse teeth grill is just out of character. If I was to come back to BMW I would look for another F80 hands down! These new ones just look god awful.

That front end is hideous, but that rear end might even be worse. The rear bumper/diffuser...it looks...I dunno...inflamed? Like the car's ass end has a giant hemorrhoid or something.

Regardless of the look there will be plenty of these sold, some people truly like it so good for them.

Many people just always have to have the newest thing and they are the ones that are most defensive about the criticism of the car.

Out of curiosity - what does the new M4 do for older M4 values? Let's say a 2017 F82, does it go up in value, remain the same, or drop because the new model is out?

Normally I think I would know the answer, but in this case were the majority of the market doesn't like the look, will it hurt/help older versions?

BTW - I get it. Some people like it and some people hate it. It just seems the majority dislikes the style. But perhaps the G80 buyer is not a previous F80 owner?

My car have pretty much retained it's value the last few years and nothing have changed now with the G8X. So far at least. If anything I see more people asking for a F8X now than a year ago, whatever you make of that.

Contrary to what we’d think, I’ve always heard a new model has basically no impact on the pricing of the prior gen.

What we do know is that these cars lose a ton of value over the first 30-36 months of life. An average M3/4 sold for $85k will be around $55k on the used market within 30-36 months.

My suspicion is that the F8X will follow all the other M depreciation models until YouTube starts talking about it as the "LAST ____ M CAR" (insert adjective) approximately 7-10 years after the production run ends. We've already seen this with the E46 and are starting to see it now with the E92.

Easy to say prices are holding because "no one wants the new one" but its just covid inflating/holding most used car values up. Most people will be fine getting the new hotness. Even if its kind of icky looking, or even tho it will weigh like 4000 lbs in auto awd form. But its like ~3700? in 6MT RWD so thats not too bad for 2021.

BMW justifies the fat pig by saying it has more power than the previous generation.. so buy this new m car.. it's very bold and we don't care for previous M owners..

Good grief those engine bay comparisons. So many steps back with this new model I’ve lost count.

Saw a Brooklyn grey M4 comp at the same dealer today.

Something about the M4 body makes it lot nicer. I still have an issue with the front end but the body lines are more appealing. Still wouldn’t be my first (or second) choice if I had to sell my YMB M today ...
