Front shock tower reinforcement
I'm curious if the F8x platform is susceptible to front shock tower issues such as cracking and mushrooming like the older e36 and e46 platforms. I started pulling some stuff off to check out the design of the F8x front shock towers and it does look a little bit more reinforced from the factory compared to older generations. In the picture attached, there's a yellow arrow pointing to a black ring that goes on top of the front shock tower. According to the parts catalog, this is a "reinforcement for support".
https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-2...uine-bmw-part/ Would this alone, plus the factory front strut brace, be enough to deter issues like cracking and mushrooming that occurred with previous e36/e46 platforms. What if stiffer suspension is thrown into the equation - for example spring rates of ~300lbs for the front? Does that change anything? Car has been out for about half a decade now and I don't think this is a documented problem at all, including on the ones with higher miles or driven in poor roads.
My other car showed mushrooming at 50k miles which was fixed by a mallet and some strut tower reinforcement. honestly think what the f8x has from stock is already enough reinforcement to prevent this from being an issue. |

We have 2 more "braces" bolted onto the strut towers than the average car. we're also not running runflats. imo there are other much more pressing items to worry about and this is way down the list. just drive the car. |

Is that actually a reinforcement that's pictured in the first post? How come it's on top of the shock tower whereas for the e36 and e46, BMW made this piece to go under the front shock tower?
