Who's white F80 got beat up in Campbell last night by a stock F97 X3 MC... ?
Like the title says, last night I was having a little fun in the streets of Campbell. Dude in a lowered white F80 challenged me a few times. I had a full tank of gas (with CA 91 crap-tane / octane), the S58 wasn't fully warmed up & the car doesn't have 3,100 miles on it yet, so I couldn't use launch control either. The tire pressures were also set pretty high for maximum MPG's & a firm ride. Certainly not optimal for (challenging others from a dig).
Regardless, it was a lot of fun to see another owner with mods sweat at the light against a bone stock AWD monster. But the guy in the F80 obviously couldn't control his car that well & was struggling to find traction in the first 1-3 gears. LMAO He was all over the road & hence the reason I pulled back from solid balls to the wall runs (in Mexico roads /streets of course). So I held back from extended WOT runs. Would love to challenge this guy again. From a standstill, the S55 got consistently walked & this was in factory fresh trim. If any of you know who this guy is, please send him my way for a proper re-match.

If you, by using the word "story" are thinking, assuming, or insinuating in any way this outlay of recent events was fabricating. Feel free think again. The S55 & DCT are a great combo. But we all know the chassis has troubles putting even stock power levels down. From a roll this modified F80 that was substantially lowered on aftermarket wheels was a pretty even match. But we all know the torque curve after 5.5k rpm tends to drift off. So had we both kept our foot in it longer, we could've explored more of the platforms capabilities in this case. Wasn't trying to step on anyones toes here. In my area, the loud mustangs, camaros & challengers are heavy pigs that don't pose much of a challenge. Hope there's a fun rematch sometime soon in the near future. Only in the streets of Mexico though (as they say). Let the search commence...

the f8x gets walked on by minivans from a stop. the car is severely limited by traction.
x3 mc 0-60 3.2 seconds f8x 3.9 on a perfect day i mean mudded the fuck out might get closer to 3.2 but still wont get traction. theres not point of rematching. you will win every single time. you are a former s55 owner so i doubt you posted this to talk shit. |

Kind of expected that X3 M would walk an F80, no?

Thank you for the insight fellas. Sounded like he had a few worthy mods. I was just bummed we didn't get more of a proper chance at 2-3 solid runs. But with a poor driver behind the wheel of a powerful car without much traction, seeing him get squirrelly on every attempt to match me didn't inspire much confidence to keep my foot in it, while I was in the next lane. Hopefully he eventually see this.

That exactly why this thread was originally created. Just a touch of pure hatorate unfolding here. Guessing "some" of the F80 guys are a touch salty with the F97 specs & bone stock / out of the box capabilities. Can't we all just get along... ?

It’s funny you should do a 40 roll next time lol. Curious to see how that goes. I raced a couple s58s in my s55 and it’s always good races off a roll.

Genuinely curious--what is the primary use case for the X3M and X5M? Porsche, Merc, Audi, etc all have something similar, so it must be a lucrative segment
-is it interior volume? usually an SUV is similar to a sedan or wagon? -canyon runs w/ the family, w/ some off road thrown in? -ski trips when you are in a hurry? the reason i ask is because physics--as heavy as an F80 or G80 might be, these things are even heavier (with higher center of gravity), so getting similar levels of performance will be harder.
