Need help: Tanzanite Blue or Silverstone II
Hi,
let me first shortly introduce myself. My name is Jakub, I live in the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic. I've been following this forum for couple of years now and all the amazing knowledge from all of you helped me to finally become a future proud owner of an 2018 DCT M3 with competition packet LCI 2.0. and black 666 wheels For all of that I would like to thank all of you. After months of coming back and forth between M3 and M4 I finally decided for the M3 after seeing it in person and due to my one year old son. And also those fender flares. I am also decided on the interior colour which shall be Amaro Brown full leather. However, I'm still undecided on the exterior colour. I'm torn between Tanzanite Blue and Silverstone, which are both absolutely amazing to me and both have their pros and cons. Therefore, I would like to kindly ask you which colour with my interior colour of choice you would prefer and what are specific pros and cons of each colour from the perspective of their owners (maintenance, swirl marks, attention, contrast with the carbon fibre bits etc.). I would also very much appreciate any pictures of the above mentioned colour combos I looked everywhere on the internet and my disk is full of various pictures, but the exact combos I am interested in (2018 M3, LCI 2.0, competition packet and black 666 wheels, Silverstone over amaro or tanzanite blue over amaro) are almost impossible to find, so if anyone have any of the combos I would be grateful for any photos Thank you very much for your help and comments. |

What are you viewing as the pros/cons?
They're both gorgeous. I'm biased towards SSII as that's what I have. It almost always looks clean from 10 feet away and silver paint hides swirls well, even in the sun. (If you're getting the car new you can easily prevent swirls yourself.) The contrast with carbon fiber accessories is awesome imo. You'll spend more time maintaining the jet black part of your 666M wheels than you will the paint. In all, low maintenance, low attention, and plays very nicely with carbon fiber. It doesn't get as much as attention as something like Tanzanite, which is also gorgeous. I prefer it that way, though. The color is stunning particularly when the sun bounces off the metallic flake in it. I'll let someone who has one speak their mind about it. I do think the carbon bits get subdued however - just my .02 and I would personally stick with the regular 666M over the black ones with this exterior. Good luck choosing and enjoy your future M3 can't go wrong either way. |

I had a similar situation where I was deciding between Mineral Grey or Silverstone. I actually went back and forth a couple of times after my order was placed with the dealer. I'm sure they were happy about that.
What finally made me settle on MG was when I saw the Silverstone in person. There was a new M6 that just arrived in the showroom. And under certain lighting, it looked baby blue. That made up my mind for going with MG and I haven't regretted it since. |

I like them both. I was seriously considering the silver stone, but I ended up getting the mineral white. One thing I took into consideration with regards to choosing darker colors is having the contrast with the carbon fiber parts. The carbon fiber parts pop more with the lighter colors.

If you have seen tanzanite in person, then cool, but if not, the pictures online don't really match what it looks like in real life. I find it way too dark, looks black most of the time. You will see every swirl mark too. MG or Silverstone with Amaro would be awesome.

I had Tanzanite over Gold Brown (gorgeous combo) that I bought from the dealer lot. I had to Cancel my SSII order for it. However, if I order another F8x, it will 100% be SSII because I like it better than Tanzanite.

My vote goes for TB and Amaro. It sounds like you're set on the interior and IMHO Amaro doesn't go to well with SS. I prefer SS as a color for all the reasons mentioned above, but if you're set on Amaro then go with TB.

Thanks! It was gorgeous, IMO, but I've always loved SSII... plus TZB was a PITA to keep clean

What I should have said was polls like these are terrible. There are no bad F8x colors, and you're going to get feedback that is 50/50 when comparing safe options like these.
If you truly can't decide between the two, go with SSII because it's cheaper.

The lines of your M3 will Pop with Silverstone II
OP, I believe you will be best served in choosing Silverstone II for your exterior. I would like to believe I am being objective, even as a SSII owner, in my recommendation to you. As mentioned above all the colors are great in their respective ways, but SSII really does show off the car's lines, especially when compared to the darker Tanzanite Blue.
Enjoy submitting your final order.

Tanzanite will readily show swirl marks, water spots and dust. I believe silver stone is less prone to do the same. Although it requires more work I did select Tanzanite and really like the way the color varies depending on lighting.

i voted tanzanite blue - because it goes well with the lighter brown
just took delivery of my SS F80 but i got cohiba brown - if you go with amaro brown - i think the darker paint is the way to go... of course SS goes better with black wheels and accents... i dont have any decent photos at the moment - only a wheel and an interior shot on instagram: evolutionF80

TZB over SSM.... TZB was my first choice, but due to an ordering snafu, I had to choose another and with my ED scheduled, I had to go with SSM. I've been _very_ happy with the combo -- SSM and SO. However, since you're going with Amaro Brown, I think that would look AWESOME with TZB. ZCP w/ TZB, amaro brown and 666M's .... yummy! I think the silver 666M's would look better with TZB.... the black against the SSM would like fantastic....personally, I like some contrast
Cheers,

Not that it probably matters, but I've had both colors. I far prefer the TB even though the maintenance is more difficult. Although, I now live somewhere that it actually rains so it does stay relatively clean.
I had my TB car wrapped with ghost shield and gladly take it through automated car washes. Makes life easier. |
