Yes, make sure everything is turned off! Thanks! For headlights I set the switch to '0' which is off and then go into vehicle settings > lighting > exterior and turn off Daytime Running Lamps so the headlights are completely OFF.

Here's the battery charger I used with BM3 and VF, trying to recover my DME lol, it works as I didn't have any problems with it:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/BLACK-DE...15BD/205431782

But M3/M4 has a lithium battery, so I am not sure if this one would work for flashing only not trickle. I have an M2.

That's probably better than any instruction thread PTF has ever made they should pay you to use it for their site.

Thanks. That is really helpful and exactly the kind of step by step guide I have been looking for and not been able to get in my questions to bm3.

I think the problem with a lot of coding/tuning companies is that they are run by “digital natives” who just assume that people have a base knowledge of coding and don’t realise how scary messing with your car is for most of us.

This kind of guide it what they need for anyone over the age of 40.

This is really great! They do so little to show off their features unfortunately when they could be posting a video and pictures of it every day. There is a lot more posted in the bootmod3 enthusiasts facebook group though. Maybe its just easier to post there than here because of how Facebook stuff works.

Another question, most of the new chargers only come on when the battery isn't charged or a drop in voltage when its connected. So when flashing, is it OK for the charger to behave like this...I thought a consistent voltage was best>?

Power supplies work like this, it is constantly monitoring.

OP: great post.

That’s a trickle charger, doesn’t provide anywhere close to enough voltage needed for flashing I believe.

You now get ALL OTS MAPS for the price of ONE! STAGE 1, 2, E85, WHATEVER YOU WANT! BM3 is a no brainer at this point, 100% most bang for buck!

Per PTF:

We've also just announced a change to handling additional OTS (off the shelf) maps. Going forward we're moving away from charging for individual additional OTS maps and instead we'll be providing access to ALL OTS maps we might have for your car at any given time!

What does this mean?
What used to be the cost 1 additional ($50 for N20/N26/N55, $100 for S55 and $150 for S63tu/N63tu) is now the cost of the entire OTS Maps bundle. All OTS maps, including the free ones of course, will now become flashable for the cost of what used to be 1 additional OTS map.

Changes are effective immediately on our website and in the system. Anyone that has already paid for an additional OTS map in the past now has automatic access to all other OTS Maps by default and any OTS maps we're going to release in the future.

With bootmod3's offline flash feature it takes just shy of 4 minutes to go from stock to OBD unlocked and tuned with an OTS map on the car and about 40 seconds to switch (flash) from one map to another. It runs on anything you can imagine from Windows and macOS laptops to mobile iOS and Android devices. All that is required outside of a laptop to get going with it is just a $20 generic BMW ENET coding cable you can get on Amazon and you're good to go!

UPDATE - There is a BM3 Agent Application! Step 2 is now replaced with the following steps:
  • Install once downloaded, and proceed with Step 3. But you're now opening the newly installed application, not the .bat or .jar files.

You no longer need to install Java (if you installed it only for BM3, I recommend you uninstall it).
