Rather have an M550i if I want luxury. cheaper lease. and its a turbo V8. They both weigh about the same ~4000 pounds.
Would rather take the RS3 over both of those though. that 5 cylinder is a beast. low 10's with just a tune and exhaust. And its gets a proper DCT rather than the ZF auto in the other cars.

I helped a friend drive his M550 home from out of state and wow... it was a very boring car. Incredible luxury and straight line speed, but yawn (for me anyway). The RS-5 has a lot more excitement going for it (and a lot less luxury).

that didn't extend to RS models back when I was having a look. If they changed that policy would explain why they suddenly moved so quick.

Yea, I mean these are 2019s and the 2021s are coming out soon with a refresh. So they should be discounted A LOT. The local dealer however, who has a car with just about a perfect spec for me is only taking off $7K. Not happening. He said he sold it for that price a week ago, but still on his site.

Damn those are some nice discounts on RS5 SBs....
For what it's worth, I almost bought a 2018 S6 brand new (twin turbo v8 + DCT + AWD + luxury albeit with aged tech). They had a seat airbag issue that required them to stay unsold for 6+ months sitting on lots. The one I came close to buying had an MSRP of $78k and was discounted to $55k. I should've done it honestly. I would've been able to drive it for a year and trade it in for $60k.

I thought about RS5 Sportback, Merc C63S, and BMW M4. In the end the LSB color won me over, but I was leaning that way anyway. The other 2 are much more expensive and heavier. I do like the hatchback the RS5 has and I think it looks amazing. All 3 are great cars, mine is for nice weekends, it’s not my DD, if it was I probably would’ve went RS5 or CPO Panamera GTS.

I just came from owning a 2019 s5 Sportback. I test drove the RS5 but came away very underwhelmed, the difference between the S5 and Rs5 was minimal and definitely not worth the premium. The steering is very very light, the sound is mediocre (actually found my S5 louder) and you can't even rev past 4K in park. The car also doesn't let you redline all the way to max rpm, it shifts up automatically. I found the seats in the S5/rs5 nicer to look at but were less padded and harder on the ass on long trips. The styling is certainly nicer than the S5 but it doesn't feel special enough, the previous gen rs5 looked and sounded the part. Fast forward to now ans I have an m4. Going from the S5 and even the RS5 the m4 truly feels like a special car , with very little compromise for performance. The RS5 is a really good GT cruiser, but its not a track machine l.

100% Agree, looked at the M550i before getting my CLS, car is pretty much a sterile missile, incredibly fast, but such a disappointment in the corners. Does not deserve to wear the 5-series badge at all. You know things are bad when Mercedes can make a better handling and more engaging vehicle.

I've driven a few lower end loaner G30 5-series and I actually thought they drove very well. Not sporting, per se, and still too large. But impressive for their size. I had hoped the M550i would have possibly moved the G30 into more of a sports sedan territory....how the e39 m5 took the already great e39 and raised its bar. Sounds like it's too numb.

I just personally prefer this car. Choices choices. Lol. You can always add tunes or aftermarket exhaust to make it louder or quieter. I know some S5 and 340i guys always seem to have a chip on their shoulder. Why else would those guys always mod to beat a M car or RS car. Lol. I personally have Porsche envy though.

Yup....
I went down that tunnel myself. There is a VERY good reason why I placed the order for the Macan GTS over a X3M/X3 M40i.

Thats a no brainer. I couldnt believe it was possible to even price an m40i into GTS territory, they are leagues apart.

I really just don't find the X3M too special. That is a personal opinion of course. I also decided not to purse the RS5 even though I had a very good chance at getting one. Just... really prefer the Macan GTS lol. P.S. The RS5 not being Nardo Grey actually helped with that decision :P

I also agree go with the S5 because the RS5 isn’t worth the premium in price. Simply doesn’t feel that much more special. Also the LCI makes the S5 sportback much more enticing. |

I had an x3 m40 for a loaner multiple times on multiple days and everytime I enjoyed thrashing that thing.

As a former RS5B9 driver for 2 years and changed to a M4 now…
A fully loaded RS5 isnt much more pricy than a M4 here. I got it fully loaded (CCB, B&O, Sunroof, Carbonpackage, ...) and got 114000,- EUR listed. My actual LCI M4 Comp Conv. were 109000,- EUR new price and miss the CCB which are quoted with round about 6000,- EUR. Calculate for yourself the difference Plus: I got never smoked by a shi**y M3, but vice versa! I am happy now with my M4 comp conv but its definitely not the much better car, it fits me better that the RS5 by some other solutions which I wish, Audi had copied them more proper than done.

I don't understand the argument about speed.
It is completely factual that an M4/3 is just a way faster car than an RS5 in everything but a dig. It has higher power capacity, a bulletproof power plant, a super aggressive DCT, etc. The RS5 is a big boat that does nothing better but AWD and fantastic understeering. Looks wise the RS5 is boring and has 0 road presence imo, it looks like an S5, soft body lines. Ditto with the C63S which i can never tell from an E43 AMG. I think if you need an AWD car absolutely yes the RS5 will do better. I don't get why any of this is even a conversation, not many people are building out RS5's on big power meanwhile you have a ton of F8X's. The RS5 is more exclusive though because people don't want it which can be a positive but that's about it. I have never driven an RS5 but i have the S5 and past about 120 km/h it can't move and it feels heavy in corners but is actually quite comfy. It's sterile. |
