Hi, everyone.

Here's all the photos I managed to salvage from the original post. I also added a few other diagrams that I found useful. --Hope this helps.

Hey no worries. I got it figured out! This was much more involved than I thought it would be starting out. But very glad everything works as it should and I didn't screw up anything in the process

This steering wheel really changes the overall driving experience. Definitely worth it!

Two questions;

1. If a car (F8X) is used for track purposes only and therefore in storage between events and has power disconnected (via kill switch to battery) will I have to re-set the RPM and wheel settings every time I fire the car back up or will the settings save without constant power?

2. Anybody using this with BM3 (or any other OBD based flashing tool) and if so encountered any issues flashing with the wheel installed (either on or off) due to the CAN signals its receiving?

Thanks!

one2three4 I am exactly the same boat as you were in this post. I did everything in the passanger footwell and for the life of me, can't figure out what to do with the connector on the steering wheel side. I have a single wt/bl and the larger blue connector wire. I do not see where this could fit? Can you assist

So I have this wheel and fitted it into my M140 with no issues.

I now have an M2 LCI and have fitted in exactly the same way but the wheel will not power up. I looked at moving the green and brown wires to the X5*1 socket but it does not have the wires that the bmw manual shows.

Could there be an issue as I've flashed the car with BM3?

Is there anyway to test the wiring if I unplug it all? I've rechecked all connections multiple times and it's driving me mad now.

For the brown wire (this is a GROUND wire), the BMW instructions say, not very helpfully, to "bend up the footwell trim" and locate one of two chassis ground connectors. I looked around but I never found what was referred to, and I didn't like the idea of just bending trim panels for fun, so I decided to take the easy route out and wire tapped it to the ground for the footwell light. It's just a small voltage ground wire, no big deal. This is way easier than whatever they heck they tell you to do with this wire, and works just fine.

Does anyone know "ground for the footwell light" is? What is the color and what to look for?

Is there any coding required for this wheel in the F3X / F8X series?

Like others in this thread, I installed the wheel and followed all the instructions correctly. However, the steering display does not power on. How did anyone with similar issue fix this? Does it have to do with the switch unit steering column?

I have an appointment with the dealer next Friday to take a look at it. I will let you know what the issue was if I don't get any response before then.

I bought an m4 with the electrical wheel installed however it keeps shutting off every 10 mins and I would have to turn it on back on. The car is at the dealer but it is still shutting off after 10 minutes even after they installed a new module.

I think it says in the manual that it goes to sleep after 10 min if none of the buttons are pushed. Also, I think it's only the center display that goes to sleep (wake with quick press of any of the two buttons) but the rev lights should still light up.

contacted bmw tech says if there is a pin there remove it tuck it away and put steering wheel pin in pin#4 for m3/m4/m2 also 1 2 3 4 series car and i just noticed picture shows a square plug which looks identical to a83*1b which is the first connector on rigth side of steering wheel but its really the curved connector is a83*b2
