Sorry not in the article. Scott's comments he talks about variants that will be In line with what Porsche does with the 911.

Well well have to see then who end up giving better gas mileage. The lighter more powerful V8 NA Stingary with cylinder deactivation or the less powerful inline-6 with valvetronic and stop/start.
My money is on stingray though I would love for M4 to be better.

I agree, prepare to be shocked everybody. There is something very special underneath that hood, and yes, I own the current M3.

Yes, took it to mean don't pass judgment until you know the performance, but I'm no Scott26 "Fedwatcher" hanging on every word. The engine pics, engine/exhaust sound, exhaust pics, rumors/leaks all seen so far are part of a giant masquerade? would be impressed if it were!

Everyone who keeps complaining that the new Ms aren't real M cars. You don't have to buy one. Stop complaining and go buy a different car. It's that simple.

I don't think the yellow works well with this car.. The blues greys whites and blacks look amazing though! Ok BMW you got us liking the exterior, hopefully specs are to match.

I had the E46 M3 and then the E92 335i followed by the E93 M3 which is my current drive (by the way you can't compare an M3 to a 335 - it's in a different league!).
Bottom line is that the M cars are the best all-rounders on the market by far. I currently have 3 cars in one. Can drop the kids at school, cruise with the roof down when it suits me, but by hitting the M button I can take on most Porsche as well - I even matched a Ferrari California the other day. Love the looks of the new M4 - but like many on here I am also a bit worried about how the new turbo in-line 6 measures up against the V8, but will reserve judgement until its out and I am sure it will once again keep this car well ahead of Audi and Merc. Find all the haters who say they are going to move onto the 911 hilarious. It's a totally different car! 911 design has hardly changed since the original Beetle in the 50s, and now it's owned by VW again. Sure the engines and handling are impressive but the designers are the laziest on the planet and it is basically a two-seater. If I wanted to buy a two seater sports car it would not be an M4 or a Porsche, there are so many more exciting and sexy cars on the market. But if you want a practical 4-seat Coupe that will match almost anything on the road, it's tough to beat this new M4. If you don't like this car, then go buy a 911, but then please don't pretend that you know anything about design and style because if you did you should be looking at an Aston or an F-series. Every car is ultimately a compromise, but I would choose this new M4 over a 911 for 364 days out of every year! Well done to BMW I think you have another winner. |

Personally I own on 08 E92 M3 but really that has little to do with not liking the car much thus far. I don't really think it is like you describe above either. What really matters is power to weight and we don't know that yet nor even either component of it. That may give us a very nice surprise and would for sure turn much of the negativity toward the positive direction. However, thus far, just the busy design and a very likely a turbo I6 are plenty enough not to like at this point. Many long term ///M fans are sort of holding our breath and I think many of us really want to like the car.

Overall the car looks good, few points;
1 I`m a little concerned for it`s size, it`s bigger/stretched than the E92 M3, which was already big. With an even bigger wheelbase it will probably lack agility IMHO. The 20" do hide this a little, but on 19" you`ll notice immediately how big this car really is. I had the pleasure to own an E46 M3, an E92 M3 and now an E82 1M, ( for realy revving I`ll take my HP4 ) from all these cars the 1M makes me smile the most, it`s fast, it`s agile, it`s driving fun all over.....the smaller size makes it more aggressive and sportier IMO. 2 The bending of the front hood line, yes it`s all about pedestrian safety rules and so on, but it really gives a very wrong side fiew of the car. The (side)shape of the headlight makes the bending even stronger, nose diving at once. Now it is very hard to judge the car on these pics, have to see it IRL to make a final judgement here, in case I do not like it I`ll wait for the upcoming M2. Porsche Cayman S could be an alternative also, time will tell. Last edited by Romo; 08-18-2013 at 03:56 AM.. |

Design is subjective, and what some like, others don't. Simple as that. We can't convince or argue someone into liking a design...
Weight is gonna be interesting! BMW has mentioned the E46 as a target and light weight components. I believe that for instance the rear subframe is not production spec on the concept... If so they should get a new welder... I expect some lightweight components. My hope is that it will be a return to a nimble car, and not a heavy muscle car like the E9x... To me, that would be back to the roots! And set it apart from the AMG etc. |

Advice should maybe be "don't be introspective" to the point that your biases of your own decision making are applied to those who own the vehicle for reasons completely different from what you think. Actually I know so many 2011-2013 M3 owners bought the cars then not because of impatience, but because they knew what was coming around the corner (larger cars and FI turbocharged engines) and intend on keeping their E9x Ms for a very long time. Also, is a bias that leasing a car becomes a huge part of into the calculus (while many cars are leased, many are not). Finally, you have to look at the existing natural progression of vehicle purchases (a high % of porsche drivers come from M3s), which is likely to continue, probably accelerate as they offer the last somewhat affordable german sports-cars that are N/A.
