I think the key is to start around 1/3 of the way up the outside of the seat. Not at the bottom. Just grip the edge and twist and work your way up and around to about 2/3 above the armrest on the inside of the seat. It's real easy once you get a finger in to start the process. I highly recommend NOT using any trim tools at all.....fingers work fine.

The hardest part (and not really all that hard) for me was to get 2 fingers in a tight spot to unplug the old logo in the seat back. All told, around 25 minutes for both seats.
Nice work. They look great. Appreciate the input into the thread.

Enjoy!
Just replaced mine. If I can do it anyone can. Not nearly as bad as you think as others have said. Hardest part was plugging power source back in
30 mins. Only because had problem with zip tie that was only on passenger seat

This was a very helpful write-up. Successfully installed new emblems in under 30 minutes with no issues

A couple photos to illustrate the progression:

Hi everyone,

New to this amazing forum and appreciate all the content here.

I was wondering whether anyone has an installation guide for the convertible as the installation there is quite a bit different than in the coupe.

I am aware of the thread here but it does not go into much detail. Strangely there is no installation guide or video available anywhere.

Appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction.

F83 replacement you can push the clip and pop out. you'll have to cut the wires since you can't access the clip from rear. that's the easiest way.
if someone can make overlay that would be great!

Thanks do you mean popping it out from the front of the seat? Any more detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone retrofitted the new M3 black seat trims with the shorter cable?

Unfortunately only need the new M3 ones, BMW changed the cables on these to a much shorter one with extra pins.

Oh my! HA.

How did it go? Did you have to splice the wires?

You still have to pull the leather off the seat to swap them out. The cable is too short to give you enough space to cut it off and connect the pins to it without disconnecting it first.

So once the old badge is removed, you have to cut the wire off, then crimp the pins onto the wiring.

I cheated a little and crimped some wire to the pins and inserted them into the plug first, then soldered these wires to the cut off cable, which means if I have to do it again in future, I won't have to pull the leather off again, as there is more length to the cable now.

Actually Kies Motorsports just made a video that you can just pull it out without removing the leather:

Would this be the same method even when going from silver to black?

I didn't have anywhere near as much length on my cable as he had their, so I can only assume he never cable tied the cable back into place when he replaced them before.

What would be the difference in between the Black version #1 and the updated one?
Just the short cable?

What about the change from silver to black? Would it be the same as this new method?

Yes the difference is the cable length.

I'm not sure if I would encourage those to be cutting and retrofitting a new connector. The video doesn't indicate any part numbers or where they are sourcing this. Perhaps I missed that in the video. Seems like a nice hack though.

Looks like pins/connector is included in the new part number:

It doesn't look bad at all: so it is basically an overlay you stick on the original ones ?
