Slight noise in 1st / 2nd with manual transmission?
Anyone get a slight groaning noise when in 1st or 2nd gear in a parking lot? Basically low speed (5mph or less) and in gear.. it's kind of hard to hear but you need to be in gear and moving slowly.. if you clutch in the sound goes away. The sound can be replicated by not giving the car any gas in gear, RPMS SUB 1,000, and just rolling in gear basically.. extremely faint groaning sound.
I'm guessing it's normal since everything drives fine but just curious if anyone else hears anything? Last edited by JamesGames; 11-19-2015 at 12:39 AM.. |

Same with me. All kinds of noises in 1st and 2nd at slow speeds. But I have 150 miles on the car so looking for this to ease up as the car breaks in. Picked her up yesterday.

Haven't noticed it in mine and I'm at 600km nowZ will fart around tomorrow and see if I notice anything.
I can tell how long it's been since I've driven a stick as a daily though... Coming to a stop and depressing the clutch from 1st gear always produces a lovely rattle under the car! Hopefully once I finish breaking in my skill as a driver with more than one leg that will go away... |

But I'm still trying to achieve a smooth shift from first to second.

Mine has a bit of a thump between 1st and 2nd. For smooth shifting I'm always watching my wife's head in my peripheral vision. I try to get it where her neck and head don't move on gear changes. But she always moves a little. I'm not as smooth as I thought.
I'm kidding. I never thought I was smooth. |

+1 on the 1-2 shift. I always get a 2 step jerk. I don't want to release the clutch so slowly that it slips.

I always wanted to ask this question, in stop and go traffic is it fine to just release the clutch without giving gas... in my audi S4 it used to work great as the engine reved up a bit. This really helps in stop and go traffic

The second gear needs to be a quick release, I see it as "catching" the rpms if that makes sense.. catch it quickly before it drops below the intended rpms if you are in sport+ so you don't get the rough shift. If you are in comfort / sport you can granny shift all day.

I wonder if this issue has anything to do with this:
