I just bought my wife a brand new Subaru Outback. Dollar for dollar, these are tough to beat. It's loaded with safety features: lane assist, blind spot detection, and collision avoidance. It also has an upgraded sound system, Nav, active high beams and xenons. Tons of cargo room and these things are as good as it gets in bad weather.
Plus, since my wife is a stay at home mom, I can drive it to work on bad weather days. I was willing to get her an X5 or MDX, but she convinced me to get the Outback. So glad I went along with that. Plus, it looks really good in the garage parked next to my M3.

Congrats. Subie wagons are awesome for inclement weather, hauling gear, avoiding getting stuck (with the right tires), and get good mpg. Enjoy!

Why didn't you get her a STi? It is the same as the Outback, even has 5 seats for the kids and extra stuff. Plus, you could've driven a rally car! A RALLY CAR!!!
I am trading my STi for a M4, are you trying to say that it is a mistake and I should keep my STi? All jokes aside, sort of, congrats!!! Lol. Last edited by StealthFish; 03-28-2017 at 11:57 PM.. |

Nice job man.. We have a 2015 3.6R all options with the eyesight, got it Nov 2014, were the first ones in our area to have the new body refresh. Have had 3 outback/wagons always as a "second" or extra car- 95, 00, and now this. 30k miles and lease is up this year. In our area it holds its value better than any vehicle, part of the reason we got it- out the door "paid" about $37, and it sits today private party good condition around $30-32k... Pretty good, residual is $18k in November... So should get some money back on it.. The tech is nice, mileage in the high 20s, more cargo space than anything near its class; I've taken it over large bowling ball size river rock beds to reach choice fly fishing areas, backpacking, skiing, a very nice all around extra AWD car, you guys will be happy. We probably intend to buy it out, sell private party then lease an '18 again at year end... Enjoy!

I didn't know I knew winter tires on an suv. Never needed for any other SUV I've owned. With winter tires it goes from giant pos to... i paid how much for a car that's pretty bad in the snow? |

I tried to lease a outback and it was more expensive than my 3 series. All in I'm under $400 per month, for a car that everything in it... |

Snow tires > All seasons > Summer tires But if your snow tires or all seasons are old, worn out and need to be replaced, then that's a problem too. This is our 3rd Outback, and even with a fresh set of all seasons, the Outback is excellent. We never needed to put winter tires on our Outbacks. We just make certain the tires are fresh and have a lot of tread life left. Depending how you spec it, X5s might come with summer tires. If that's what you had, then it will pretty much be useless in the snow. I have friends that had X5s with all seasons, and they said it's pretty good in the snow.
