So I'm running Paul's E85 race tune at the dragstrip and need to de-tune 40%TQ out of first gear to hook up with my stick-shift launched at 3.5-4K. I get a tiny bit of wheelspin high in my gears, just one or two TC flashes, not bad. Tires are currently Toyo R888R 325/30/19 @28PSI and the strip is hot and sticky with good prep laid down. Current best is 11.95ET/123MPH/60'1.93 and cool late mornings seem to help.

PROBLEM:
Built motor is in works, probably 750-850WHP coming, and a CM FX1000 clutch.

QUESTION:
WTF is the right drag tire and wheel for a very high powered M3, but still fits blue brakes?

With an operating temperature range of 160-220 * F, the R888R or any R-compound tire is neither a drag tire nor a street tire.

It takes A LOT to get those tires to warm up. One could drive for 8 straight hours with an average travel speed of 90 mph, and that still won't put the tires anywhere near the optimal temperature range. This isn't even factoring in the stiffer sidewall, which lacks the flexibility needed for a hard launch...

You have to look into Drag Radial tires at minimum. Something with at least a 40-series sidewall profile if you're looking to improve your 60' with more consistent times.

Are you willing to get a different wheel, barring it clears the brakes? If yes, I recommend the Hoosier DR2, which comes in the largest diameter of 18”

I’ve been in a couple cars at the 900-1000 rwhp mark and been astounded at the way they hold.

Yes, willing. What's the lightest 18?

Don't overlook the stock axles when switching to a full drag tire.

Consider looking into these sizes in an MT E/T Street S/S as an alternative:

285/40/18 on 18x10-10.5 ET 35-40
305/40/18 on 18x11 ET 40-44

How about these?

HO17342 P315/30R-18 26"

Aside from that one tire I'd have to drop to 17" wheels to fit a P275/40R-17

Plenty of tire if you’ve an 11” wide wheel or greater. I wouldn’t personally drop to 17’s but that’s just me.

decent tires for launch

I have the 295/19/30 Toyo RR tires on my M3 and the launch is amazing with 20% boost reduction in 1st.

Signature Wheel BMW hey Jimmy, need your expert input here. I need a real set of drags, best grip for 8-900WHP dragstrip launches. I've got blue brakes and MP-HAS, no camber/tuck job. What says our Guru?

My mind is always boggled at the people who keep recommending R888Rs to everyone. They're so popular on car forums and it is one of the most hated tires of all time on the race track. They don't even bite with stock power lol.

750-850 WHEEL horsepower is insane - you need bead lock wheels. Agreed with fiveohwblow the DR2 is wild on a prepped surface. Next option would be full slicks.

Disclosure: I don't drag race but I track often so there's probably wiser people out there but at 750-850 whp you will get tire slip on the wheel without beadlocks, no question.
