I guess that one of the big benefits that the full evo Akra has over the MPE is the power gains

It is indeed beautiful .

I am a bit partial though, your setup is almost identical to mine down to the installed M-Performance parts, but with two extra doors . Silverstone is such a classy color IMO.

Love your car and the mpe!

Imo if you are gonna spend the money on an aftermarket exhaust, the ones made of titanium make the most sense to me. Adds that exotic tone. It was the case on the e92 also. And the gtr

Anyone want to sell me one for 3k with titanium tips? Lol

The OP has since been modified to include the clamping hardware in the total weight, so the weight reduction now shows as 26lb. The remaining 8lb discrepancy probably comes from the secondary cats.
lol you was somehow able to put what I was thinking. Was eating this beast sandwich during lunch when I typed that so I guess most of my brain function was transferred to eating XD

I was hoping somebody wouldn't ask me that.

It's very hard to decide between the two based on sound, they both sound equally awesome in their own ways. We've had both Akrapovic and MPE at our dyno days and not one person has been disappointed in sound.
At the end of the day if you had to choose one which one would it be?

Unlike the other aftermarket companies, I like how the MPE gives it a more exotic sound. Definitely the best sounding exhaust for the F8X!

The car looks great, and the MPE is a high-quality exhaust that rivals the build quality of anything on the aftermarket. My ideal F80 build is either an SS or a YMB.

But I really don't get it. The car sounds so terrible. So very terrible. And everyone in this thread is lavishing praise on it.

Maybe I'm the idiot.

Can tom clarify the weights here? I'm not sure where everyone is getting 18 pounds ftom. I read it as the oem section weighed was the cut off pieces so no secondary cats are needing to be added back to the mpe weight.

It looks like 29 pounds savings to me

The 18lb (8kg) comes from the official MPE brochure from BMW (see the pdf at the bottom of this post).

Read the OP carefully. It shows 26.2lb difference (69lb - 42.8lb). There is also that "Important" note that says that the MPE retains the secondary cats and that their weight was not included:

M-Performance Hardware (ea): 2.35lb

Combined Weight: 42.80lbs.

Important: Note that the M-Performance is a "Cut and Clamp" style, retaining secondary catalytic converters while keeping emissions compliant, which on the downside, retains a slight bit more overall weight when clamped to the remaining part of the OEM system. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a total weight before installation .

Before installation, we were able to collect data on weight. As we all are probably aware, BMW has taken a much different approach with the 5th Generation of the M3 (and M4) models concentrating on vehicle weight.

One can't argue with the beauty and sound of this system.

Enjoy!
This looks REALLY good. I was a little skeptical about the carbon on carbon look with the diffuser installed as well, but this came out beautifully. I have been shopping back and forth and comparing this option, or just getting akra DP and and tune and leaving the stock exhaust. I don't like really messing with the car the way it was intended, and I feel that a tune and DP def changes that. This just seems way more clean and leaves the car classy. I may go this route.

I've added these weights to the Weights & Weight Reduction thread here: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1077612

So I guess the m3 only makes 420bhp too since that's what the official bmw documents say?

No you are not (assuming you are talking about the CF covers).

I for one prefer the nude Ti tips, especially when paired with the CF diffuser, and that is what I went for. I find it makes the exhaust look more purposeful.

I do find the CF tips look good with the standard diffuser. But CF tips and CF diffuser is a bit overdone to my taste.

No, it does not make 420hp. Get your specs right.

I for one believe that, if tested according to the requirements specified in the regulation, the S55 will make 431ps (425hp) at the crank within the allowable tolerance band of the regulation.

You do like going in circles arguing with empty arguments, don't you...?

Not really a fair comparison since there are some variables involved between the systems.

The Akrapovic (evolution system) is a true bolt-on system which eliminates any cutting of the stock exhaust system. The Akrapovic SlipOn is a Cut and Clamp like the MPE, so we'll compare those systems.

Both Akrapovic SlipOn and MPE are street legal, since the secondary cats are retained. Sound is a bit higher pitched on the MPE - it definately has a signature exhaust note under load. Construction quality is a bit better on the Akrapovic systems, but unnoticeable on either once installed.

In the end, you really can't go wrong with either system. Hear both systems in person and see what you like.

CanAutM3 How would you say upkeep is on keeping the tips clean? I know you haven't had it very long, but was just curious on your thoughts so far.

So far so good .

I've had the MPE for 5 months now, which includes quite a few in the dirty/sluchy/salty winter environment. I take the car to an automated car wash once in awhile and when the weather permits to get the grim and salt off the car. That is enough to keep the tips looking good.

In the summer, I suspect a simple wipe of the tips every time I hand wash the car will be good enough. I am not too anal about them, they remain exhaust tips after all .

Am I seeing this right, that the MPE with CF tips costs in the neighborhood of $5K?
