Led "Foglight" Coding

I had this done recently w/ Tom (@EAS) as an addition to the overall coding package I did several weeks ago. I've been trying to find out a good way to show difference in light distribution and finally figured out how to do it. Whipped out my DSLR, used my wide-angle lens and popped open the sunroof. It actually surprised me much more light is cast in front of the car. What this coding essentially does is use the existing cornering lamps we (us LED folk) have and make them do 2 things: turn them both on & increase them to 100%. You then use the switch above the Rear Foglight switch to activate it.

This definitely makes the Led Lighting Package worth getting even more

Special thanks to larrylam646 for discovering the idea!

Thanks for making the pictures, it does indeed show how much more (wider) illumination is projected.

I have also done this mod myself and find it a cool additional feature to have .

SROC3 Nice meeting you today man! This is another really cool mod for us LED light owners. Definitely makes checking off the LED options much more worthwhile. The handicapped US specs do not do them justice but now they're just awesome!!

tom @ eas Thanks Tom! I appreciate you modding the switch for me and updating the coding to include this new feature!

Can you do this along with anti-dazzle coding?

For those who'll invariably come to this thread only wonder where the actual coding values are:

  • LHM [44] > M2 - Werte = FA FA 00 FA FA FA 00
(the default setting has the 4th byte set to 00 rather than to FA).

With regular (non coded) LEDs as well - but if you're going to code them, then you might as well code for adaptive (NGHB) too. Unless you're mistaking "regular led" for xenons.....

Euro doesn't have this "fog light" option either (AFAIK), at least the ability to toggle it on and off. They would need to mod their switch like we do. As for why we don't get NGHB and anti dazzle, well some archaic law prevents it over here. It's a shame because laser and LED matrix lights are just getting to the point where they do some really cool amazing stuff. But we don't get any of it.

That's a cool option, thank you for sharing. My car was coded from the factory with anti dazzle option, seems like most of the US cars are not. Doubt it has anything to do with any laws because my window sticker also shows it was coded with that. Strange

It is actually the other way around. The codes you see on the window sticker is to DISABLE the variable light distribution and the anti-glare high beams (5AP and 8S4). You have to remove those two options to activate the features. Your car is just like all the others .

I'll have to look at the sticker when I get home to confirm, it was functional when I drove it in Europe and the BMW rep at the welt mentioned how cool the function was when going over the car with me. I'll double check

That is exactly it. My car order sheet had the same.

Notice that is says DEcoding. As stated previously, 5AP and 8S4 in effect REMOVE the VLD and NGHB functions.

I'm confused because my car has the option, had it in Germany and still had it when picked up here. :
