I am hoping someone can help. I just attempted to code the full screen apple carplay via BimmerCode. I went in to hmi in expert mode and set CarPlay full screen to activ.

What I was greeted with after the coding was successful was still split screen but with the right hand portion blank white.

Has anyone had this happen to them before?

Yes, you need Fullscreen patch / Firmware Upgrade

So this is the case even though my car already has evo x installed?

I just had the iDrive software updated by the dealer (1/2022) under warranty (2018 M3). They installed NBTevo_Y (previously I had NBTevo_V from an update the dealer did about a year ago). I was able to code full screen CarPlay with Bimmercode without any problems.

Did the dealer charge you to do this? I'm pretty sure you can download it via bmw's website but wanted to double check

You can't download update of NBTEVO from BMW website.

I had it updated under warranty (I have 2018 M3, still 7 months of warranty left). I complained that the iDrive was occasionally acting a bit flakey (which it was). They updated to version NBTevo_Y, which I assume is the newest.

At some point they will stop working on the firmware on these systems to concentrate on the systems in newer cars.

(And if you happen to to know where I went wrong, I'd love to hear )
There is absolutely no need to update FEM_GW. Never update FEM_GW without updating FEM_BODY...

Thanks for the reply, good info!

Goes quite against the common theme of these these guides that say update your dependencies, but they never explain what exactly will fail. Given your expertise with HU's I'll take that over the general advice

So what's the recommendation now in my case? Also update FEM_BODY? Downgrade? Don't do anything? (I didn't see anything that didn't work yet besides Carplay...)

Just leave it as it is.

Just looked at the dependency list of FEM_BODY; that's pretty much everything... Can't do that anyway as it'll lock the engine management ECU which I'm quite fond of having changeable.

I ended up using the update via easy bimmer coding. Cannot begin to describe how easy this process was. Done in under 5 minutes. 10/10 would recommend.
