M4 Driver's Package. How to know?

First time posting here, but I bought a 2018 M4 Competition. Verifying the VIN, it does not show the 7ME driver's package, which unrestricts the top speed of 155mph. However, while not reaching the unrestricted top speed, I've gone well over 155mph with plenty of speed left in it before backing off. How can I tell if there's been some coding or something else done that either unrestricted it, or if the driver's package is actually on this car?

Your car always shows more than what the real speed is.

Grab a GPS tool and measure it once again and you'll see you may not even have reached 155 mph.

If it is tuned, someone may have deleted the speed limiter, too.

Thanks for the quick reply, but a couple things... It's been near 170, so I think that would be way too far off of actual, and I would also think that if a limiter was in place, it would be based off the speed the car "thinks" it's going, right? If it displays 165, I would imagine that's what the electronic speed assumption of the car would be and have shut down once the car thought it was at 155mph, regardless of true/actual speed.

Any easy way to tell if it's been tuned?

Look at the hp and torque gauges on the sports display in Idrive. If your peak hp and torque numbers on the gauges are > 500 hp/lbf-ft then your car is tuned and the sports gauges were renumbered (it’s a gimmick, not accurate hp/torque values). Does your car have the cold start turned off (not super loud on a cold start for the first ~30 sec)? No other easy ways to check whether your car has been tuned.

BTW, you can get your car coded to show the accurate digital speed vs. the overly optimistic dial speed.

I wouldn't say it's super loud on a cold start, but definitely quiets down after 30 seconds or so. Not sure how to compare what it is vs what should be otherwise. The hp/lb-ft gauge is definitely not showing a 500 or higher value on it, so I guess that probably answers that. But I'm still stuck with the mystery of getting it well past the 155mph limiter mark. Going to look at a stage 1 tune and some coding options like you mention. There are so many tunes out there with prices all over the board. Dinan's stage 1 tune also recommends a heat exchanger along with it, which doubles the overall cost. Any recommendations of what to stay away from or products anyone has had success with?

I don't think drivers package aka speed limiter increase to 280kph was offered for NA market in F82.

Stock 2018 M4 Competition, DCT has a limiter at 267kph/166mph cluster speed, while gps shows 263kph/163mph on 666 wheels, stock tire size. It hits that in 5th gear around 7300rpms. Without limiter, tuned it'll show cluster speed 272kph/169mph in 5th at 7500rpms.

M cars always had a bit higher speed limiter than regular Bmw's. Some like E46 M3 SMG were ''cheating'' a bit, having the limiter in 6th gear only, while in 5th was able to go few kph faster.

It was definitely available in the US and was in the order guide.
