Pebble/rock in Dust Shield , Noise
Just purchased my F80 and I seem to have gotten hit with the dust shield bug. High pitch metal scratching noise. I’ve read many of the forums, I’ve hit/bent my dust shield, taken the tires off. Noise is still there. Next step to just take off the shield/rotors? Is there also a permanent fix for this?

Is it making the noise constantly or only when you hit the brakes? I don’t hear anything at one point and then I clearly hear it.
I’ve had it happen once on the left rear and it was extremely loud even with the windows up. I suppose the sound can be different depending on the size and shape of the rock. |

I'm assuming you're talking about the brake shields. What year is your car? There was a TSB for cars up to 2017. You'll probably need to pay for it since it's not under warranty anymore.

I listened to it again and I do hear it from the beginning to end. All I did to address the issue on my ‘16 was to bend the shield (push the top edge inward) around its outer circumference. Haven’t had it happen again since bending the shield. Cost: $0.00, just 5-10 min worth of effort to do all of them.

Extra paranoid as you never know if it’s damaging the discs until you can stop to push the backing plate. It’s usually a tiny little pebble.
