Must be boring waiting for job.
I thought all M cars has some kind of mandatory service that you have to do at 1200 miles.

Probably will, I would ruin the trip idea completely.

Well, the sector i deal with has been downstream lately, and I'm just waiting for a spot, so it is really boring. I should just go to bed, and wait, but I hate loosing so much, I can't risk it. And the dear old spouse is on a business trip, so I have no one to argue with about the amount of space his russell takes. Again, the list of third world problems I could fill is epic.

BTW, how seriously are you going to take the breaking in period? Strait to the ring?

Is the 1200 mandatory or recommended? I know the new lubricants from Castrol are less viscous and have better shear resistance/film strength

Is it just a safety check this go around?

I heard the S63tu was causing stress fractures and the heat was causing plastic pieces to melt/crack

Then the 0w-30 hmm

Sport plus all day and I would want to see if my engine was rev happy

I think AY looks a lot better than YMB

It's mandatory (well, not in the strictest sense...)

The main purpose of this service is to change fluids in order to flush out any metal shavings and residue that collect during the first miles of driving. Some even change their oil after 20 miles or so just to get the initial crap out: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Well, you just ruined my morning coffee. Cheers mate.

Oh damn, I didn't want that to be true. Now I have to adjust the road trip plan, or just try to stay awake the first night to do the miles required and then hit the road. Third world problems ones again.

Sorry for laughing, but I just picture a German woman of the old-fashioned German TV series Lindenstrasse running every Sunday night. I know that I shouldn't be doing that... so my apologies!

Hey you'll end up driving something named after a Ramstein song, so do not laugh at us! Mutter for example will not work, so take an other one!

If you want to come to some BMW car events let me know since you're in my area... That should get you out in the car more. I soft broke in my m5 and while I put down nice power its not clear if it was any better or worse then the guys who did HARD break-ins over on m5post.

ENJOY the car give it some gas when you get it, you should be fine.

WOW! ONLY 3500? or did you mean 35,000 miles per year? It sounds like you'll only drive this car for small special trips.

I may do the Performance center delivery. That way I can put miles on it driving it back from SC to MD.

My plan is to have it broken in and serviced within a week! I'll collect in the UK and drive to Germany which is around 500 miles. I will then just pick random places to go and just drive until I've done the mileage!!

I had been thinking the same thing originally, but didn't go for it. I'd love to hear how it turns out for you if you go that route. I'm planning to drive straight from Rockville to Skyline drive that first day (if the weather permits) and just have a good time. 50 out towards Winchester in the mountains has some great scenic routes as well. I'm not going to want for excuses to put on the break-in miles for sure haha.
