Remove M4 Convertible Rear Headrests?

Can you remove the rear headrests on an M4 Convertible? They are huge and block a lot of your vision when looking back.

I fear they aren't due to rollover safety, but thought I'd ask.

Thanks

Tried many variations, those headrests take up a lot of space.

Eventually we'll adjust get used to them, but would be nicer if we could remove. Never carry any passengers. It's our alternate dog car so the back seats are for the dogs.

They are probably not removable for safety reasons.

Appreciate it GolFFRR, I tried a little bit messing with them and they seem pretty solid in there. I'd love to remove them (in a reversible way ).

Ok it looks as though it's part of the roll over safety aspect of the car. Bmw dealers would not be able to remove them obv but our team has a sense that the most likely could be built into the structure of the car so that they would assist In protection during roll over situations

So with that in mind there may be a way to remove them however bmw can't assist you and sounds like even if you could remove them it would not be a smart idea

Hope that helps!

In the event of rollover the headrests shoot out from the car to assist in protection to the rear passengers. They are not removable.

The headrest is not for protection of roll over , there is dedicated pillar behind headrest design with that purpose

wow! Bold move replying to a 3+ year old post ... but nice job, don't let him forget how much he fucked up that answer.

For clarity, the rear headrests are completely removable: just pull straight up and they come right out (I've done it on 2 now), they're only held in place with friction.

Also, it should be noted that anybody that doesn't remove the rears (or uses that stupid plastic victorian wind skirt) looks like a moron.

This is totally *back from the dead* but randomly I was on ebay looking at F83's and saw this one for sale at a dealer. Check it out - no rear headrests. They've been removed. I thought they weren't able to be removed -- guess that's NOT true !

Better with them than without.

Victorian wind skirt has got to go though.

Its the wind deflector which is located behind the rear seats on f83's.

It looks like it came from the victorian era. Hence victorian wind skirt.

Searching for plugs for rear headrest holes

I (easily, but they shut up in the air like a champagne cork!) pulled my rear headrests as I never have passengers, keep rear seat folded and have windscreen. Looking for plug solution. Real oem does not show plugs. Any suggestions?
