The book value on a CBC install should be 1 hour, but let's say 2. INDY shops around the GTA charge $70-110 per hour while dealerships charge $150/hour. So 2 x $100 is $200 to get CBC installed and thats being generous! Mechanics are milking crank hub jobs because it puts them out for 2 days. They will be missing out on smaller easy jobs that net them a lot of money. They have to calculate that so they charge $5K for a 2 day crank hub job. A close friend of mine is a mechanic for a non-bmw dealership and he is disgusted by some stories he hears and prices some INDY shops charge. He always tells me, if you can do it yourself, when you can't, shop around and find a mechanic that will do the job for a reasonable price and show you pictures of the work done. Always ask for the replaced bad part also.

What I don't understand is the $4k for the crank hub replacement. That's a bit of a head scratcher as all the videos I see show the job completed in under two days. @$150 an hour x16 hours it's $2400 in labour. Not sure if the part and coolant adds $1600 to the cost...
$1200 usd for hub
$oil filter, gasket, seal, coolant etc maybr more 1600$

Easy to get to 4000$

That makes sense then. Didn't know the part was $1200 USD. That's mental.

Just saw that today also, asked for pricing and was told $500. Not sure if that includes coolant flush or not.

Forgive me for not being smart with the lingo. Only had my M4 for a few months now but what does the capture kit do to alleviate a spun crank hub?

Only thing I have and intend of keeping is BMS Stage 1.

The crank bolt capture slips over the head of the crank bolt fully encapsulating it, and locks it to the crank hub, meaning it cannot back out no matter what.

Is this something I should be asking the dealer to do and it will alleviate the potential crank hub issue no matter what? Or is this a custom labour dealio only?

I don't think this is something the dealer will do.
Basically they would not install something that's aftermarket or an add on to the engine even if it's for safety reasons.

All depends on the relationship you have with your service advisor/manager.

Yea. Sucks being in SK. Not many tuner places here at all. Closest place is Calgary or Edmonton sadly.

Would any kind of knowledgable mechanic be able to do this install with parts from Park Motorsports?

Please explain how a product that makes the crank bolt impossible to back out which is one of the leading causes of spun crank hubs is useless. Once you do a CBC the only remaining culprit is producing so much torque it over comes the friction disk, or of course money shifting a 6 speed.
