Talking Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel Upgrade - Opinions Needed

Im upgrading my M4's steering wheel and I need you to help me pick a few options.

Here is how the steering wheel is going to look like
Name: maxresdefault.jpg
Views: 1591
Size: 137.7 KB

And here is where I need your help

Shape
1) keep the shape exactly like it shows in the picture (square bottom, round top)
2) change it to square bottom and square top

Side Grip
1) Leather
2) Alcantara

Here is how the leather one looks like (ignore the blue, it'll be fully black carbon)

depending on how the square top is done it could be better or worse looking. I would guess that a square top would block the dials even more than the wheel tends to do (at least with my seating position).

I think alcantara is cooler than leather but leather feels better to grip and less maintenance... this is after getting accustomed to an alcantara wheel.

I know this isn't one of your options, but at the risk of blasphemy I would consider maybe something like alcantara where the carbon is around the wheel. There's something about the radial lines that the pattern makes that doesn't look that good.

1 and 1 is my vote too. Just curious where are you getting this wheel from and how much? I'm interested in one as well.

That's what I thought, but honestly if you use a microfiber towel drenched with warm water and just clean it once every couple weeks or so, it stays wonderfully soft and fuzzy. The folks who never clean their alcantara are the ones who have those nasty, matted looking wheels/arms rests etc. I don't put anything leather product wise on mine, just warm water with a clean microfiber towel every two weeks!

If you can do it that frequently then you're fine with either but in reality most people do it every few months if that. I stopped touching the alcantara part of my V2 wheel. I also don't touch the blue stripe. So basically I have about 20 percent of the wheel that I actually do touch! 😛

Here is my eBay CF steering wheel. Extremely high quality wheel and changes the car to some extent as it is a very noticeable mod. Huge improvement!

It looks like the eBay one posted above is from the same manufacture?

It looks like im aiming for almost the same steering wheel but with perforated leather.

Last decision to make is whether do get round top/square button or fully square

Just a quick follow up question? Do most of the people who do this mod not have the heated steering wheel option? Or do they just do this knowingly that they are going to lose this feature? I'm under the assumption that aftermarket steering wheels can't have the OEM heated steering wheel option adapted into it?

I was given the option to keep heated steering for a couple hundred dollars more. I skipped it

You can keep the heated wheel option even on the carbon fiber wheels?? That's awesome. The one thing stopping me from a steering wheel upgrade is that I love the heated wheel feature.

The eBay company is E.C.I so you can just search for the store then search the store for the wheel. I know I got the last one he had on the shelf, but I posted about this on another thread and got some interest. E.C.I said they were building more and they should be done by now. Send them a message through eBay. Hope this helps.
