Ok so I posted this video on the G80 forum and wow they are hating on it. (Some not all)

Spoiler, I picked up my e30 while my friends drove my f80 and this G80 guy seemed like he had no clue that we were driving M3's as well…

I was super surprised and sort of inquired to see if the BMW fan base changed over and G80 owners are just a new breed. I have my opinion of course now but curious what you think.

For the record, I thought it was funny and I clearly do not care that he didn't thumbs up. I am upset that BMW is losing its core fan base maybe but that's yet to be fully determined.

Here's my video… warning still quite a new channel and not that comfortable on camera

I must be getting old but sometimes I do what the guy in the g80 did and not look over. I've had too many people think that because they come up next to me i will race them. I've even been cut off the times I looked over and said nah I'm good. Most times I have my baby in the rear car seat and they don't know that. Maybe it's time I get a baby on board sticker.

Op could be he just thought you wanted to race and didn't want trouble.

I didn't even think of that hahaha! Maybe that was the case. He looked over at my thumb and smile and just turned away

Vibe was pretty in the video until you got stuck in the G80.
I dont think he's stuck up or doesn't know what he's driving. Probably just was coolin.

That said, congrats on getting the car the way you like it. It's dope.

Yeah maybe it was hard to capture on camera but oh well. Thanks so much! It's a fun ride, nice to have the contrast form old and new

Not weird. Just have to understand that not all M car owners are true BMW enthusiasts, and they're still only humans.

I'm guilty of ignoring an E30 M3 when I got my first F80 4+ years ago. I wasn't in the mood to chat since I had just pulled out of the garage, and needed to text someone at work. The guy parked by my side for a few minutes until he got the clue... sorry not sorry.

Haha I get it. Us poor e30 guys just want everyone to like our cars to justify why we paid too much

I don’t think you’re thinking of this wrong at all.

If the guy coolin out in his atrocity80 spent the extra coin on an m, he is better served to acknowledge why he has done so. If it’s just another car, buy the 330 and move along.

Beautiful rides OP, thanks for sharing. New channel is still better than a majority I see trying to force that which they aren’t. You seem natural.

He's likely just trying to feign superiority in an attempt to ward off the buyers remorse he's feeling after purchasing a car that requires a blindfold to approach without vomiting

Recall the marketing campaign that was rolled out during launch. BMW also targeted a different demographic than its usual crowd. The younger customer might not be as 'enthusiast' as most of us here are.

I've had people driving older Ms acknowledge and I return the favor, hell, even guys in Teslas and MBs.

FUCK that guy! If you drive a true M car, you should have the up most respect for the first M car that set the wheels in motion and brought BMW to its current point! There would be no G80 without the e30 being so successful!

I've always respected every M car and even the 2002 in my e46 M3 and my current f82 and continue to shit on G80/G82 for being so ugly and fat!

I'm confused. True M cars should respect each other, per your post, and then later in your post you say you 'continue to shit on G8X cars'.

Like it or not, a G8X is a real M car. BMW decides what a 'real M car' is. Same like Porsche decides what a 'real GT3' is and Mercedes decides what a 'real C63s' is. A 'real X car' is what the company decides it is. The day Mercedes puts a 4 cylinder in their C63s, guess what, it will still be a 'real C63'.

Each of us has their own take on what a 'real M car' should be, so perhaps you think the G8X is a piece of shit. Have you considered that maybe the G8X driver thinks a 30 year old M3 is also a piece of shit and doesn't care about it?

To the OP:
This thread is bizarre. Why does someone expect other M car drivers to validate their need for attention and 'respect'? Are we in preschool? Someone didn't wave and you create a video feeling 'disrespected'? Insane. Perhaps he didn't see you, perhaps he thinks a 30 year old M3 is a piece of shit, infinite other possibilities.

When I cross other M cars I usually wave or give a thumbs up while I pass and sometimes get one back and other times do not. It just happens. Who cares?

Yes, true the G8X is a true M car but I just cant put it in the 3/4 class. It belongs more in the 5 series due to its size. We can discuss its looks at length but it will go nowhere. We all can somewhat agree that this direction (huge front grill) BMW is going is not the right one!

I might have a bit too much hate for the G80/G82, it upsets me too much that it has a BMW badge on it let alone a M badge.

I think plenty of non car people buy Porsches, BMW M, Mercedes AMG, etc etc.

Fortunately there is no need to prove you are 'an enthusiast' to buy an expensive car.

That's good, as I can have my current 5 M cars without worrying I am considered 'not good enough' to own them because someone with a E30 is hurt that I was changing the radio station while he was waving at me.

I appreciate the nod to heritage, but I sure as hell don't expect anyone to have to do it. Being offended by it is, in my opinion, rather silly.

This goes beyond cars.

Also, respect is earned, not given.
