KW DDC review (NYC roads)

Hi all just wanted to put out a short review on the KW DDC kit, since I couldn’t find many when I was looking.

Started w stock M3CS, added some EMD springs for 6days. They were great! The ride was really good even on the roads of manhattan, BUT they were just too low for me to feel comfortable driving around particularly as the snow created some big potholes and dips recently. So I called Keith over @ Stance and we agreed KW DDC might be the best option for me

The KW DDCs are an awesome looking and high quality kit. The install took about 3hrs and Keith is awesome.

The ride is really well planted and there is no longer any floatiness on highway dips. The suspension eats up rough road in comfort and sport modes. Sport+ is stiff too stiff to be useful on public roads. For those familiar to NYC these compared pretty well to a stock CS on the FDR and BQE which are like patches of broken asphalt than actual roads!!

I set them up to be at the highest setting in the rear it’s about a 1finger gap, and the fronts are close to the highest as well and I have about 2 finger gap up front, most speed bumps and driveways aren’t an issue now unlike the EMDs which had be taking everything at an angle.

I think it’s a great set up and I couldn’t be happier w them after 1day and about 50 miles. Will get a full alignment done at the end of the month

I must say after a few weeks w this suspension I’m even more impressed with how livable it is…. I did a run to Atlantic City and it was a great drive and a lowes pick up and it just handle every daily task lol

Who needs an SUV when you have a M3CS lol

Next up will be a few track days but as of now it’s purely bliss and how the M3 should have come

How does it compare to the 911's ride & handling?
I have a 997.1 and really like the way it handles - I want my M4 to handle the same way.

I really need a ride in a KW DDC equipped car. Are you going to the October 16 "bear mountain" run? I know it's a different destination this year.

Iv heard loads say it's comfortable and I'm sure it is. But what's it like on fast twisty roads or track.

It feels much better planted than the stock CS to me, the dampening is more controlled w the kw’s

It was almost as planted as my 997.1 on b16 coilovers at Monticello motor club a few months back. So I would say it’s a good daily and occasional track/twisty set up.
I think I’ll add some urethane bushing pieces and a camber kit Thai spring to round out the feel

Nyc911 How are you finding the KW DDC after a year? I am based in London and I am wary of lowering the car as the CS splitter is already scrapping some bumps. Looks like you have a sacrificial piece installed beneath it, where did you get it from? Thanks!

https://eurocustomspr.com/products/bmw-f80-m3-cs-splitter-for-carbon-fiber-cs-lip

That’s the lip I was running… but did a high speed pull while data logging and it flew clean off..my guess was I was scrapping a lot and the heads of some the screws wore down and caused it to fail. I just added some slipLo under the lip for protection this weekend.

I’m now running some fairly beefy 19” wheel combo and added the 20mm higher spring in the rear so I find it really comfortable on NYC roads… depends on what part of London I think you’ll be fine as long as you don’t slam the car.

On the track after this season and about 4 track days it was good for my skill level… it doesn’t take curbs well like my 911 but I’m not sure any suspension set up will be able to compare w a 911 over curbs.

Also w the longer rear spring I can run it in sport and sport+ a lot and only switch to comfort on really slow broken roads.

Some people are saying that they aren't noticing a difference between modes. What's your experience been like?

I commute on DDC's daily. From my experience, comfort and sport - a bit hard to tell but it's definitely different. Sport+ there is no question, there is a significant difference.

I can feel the difference, I feel it mostly in the rebound soft feels floaty a bit like oem soft but has a crisper high speed rebound

Sport feels like oem sport+ but w softer rebound so it’s very useable in NYC

Sport+ feels like oem Sport ++ to me

It’s all a bit subjective… if you’re on a flat road you’re not going to notice a much difference w DDC or Oem
