Fault Codes P0171 and P0174
Hey guys,
I'm getting a CEL that's showing the following codes: P0171 (right bank too lean) P0174 (left bank too lean) The CEL originally came on after getting gas so I figured the gas attendant (NJ) didn't close the cap properly. The light went away after driving some miles. Didn't have a code reader so CEL reason unknown. I got gas again last night and later on in the night the light came back on. I checked the codes this morning and found the codes above. My research shows that the codes seem related to the intake (Googled the codes). I have the BMS intake and the MAF sensors are not in the stock location. Do you think the cold winter weather coupled with the misplacement of the sensors could be the cause? I don't want to bring it in to the dealer if they are just going to tell me it's because I have an aftermarket intake. Any input would be appreciated.

I recently read here about an issue with someone who had the BMS intakes as well. Their car was sputtering on startup. It's likely MAF sensor related but I'd bring it to the dealer to have the codes checked. Nice color combo on the car btw

They will use the fault codes operation data to assist with the fault conditions. Example : engine operation temp, vehicle speed, gear selection etc.. of course the information varies based on the code etc. but you get the idea. Wouldn't want them to think you have been playing with your car when going in for a warranty issue |

It ended up being my map sensors not being seated 100% in the flanges. The o-ring wasn't fully inserted so when the weather got cold enough, the rubber shrunk enough to let un-metered air into the intake. Once I re-seated the sensors, I never had a problem again.

Thanks man! I'll give this a shot over the weekend.. I'm in NJ so the car has been hibernating for a while as I wait for the warm weather.. Decided to take it out today, 30 Degrees, and the CEL pops up.. I'm hoping this has to be the reason you mentioned above.

Anyone else had this issue? I installed BMS intakes a week ago and now I am getting a p0171 and p0174. I am running 91 pump from shell and JB4 on map 1.
I already checked the O-rings on the MAF sensors which are fine, fully seated and MAF sensors are oriented in the right direction (arrows pointing direction of airflow) |

Just got the P0174 code this morning.
I did get gas on my way home yesterday and it was a bit colder than usual early this morning when I was leaving. I'm hoping it's just the seating of the MAP sensors due to the colder weather. I'll have to check em' after work today. I have Maximum PSI intakes, but those were installed over a year ago with no issues. As always great info on here guys, thanks

I had this issue when I installed front mount intakes. The CEL popped up a few days after installing them, was during a pull on the highway. Tried to readjust the intakes, play around here and there but the CEL won't go away. Ended up going back to stock intakes with BMC drop in filters, never saw the CEL again.

I would suggest you re-install the intakes carefully and see if that does the job. If not, I highly recommend you go with the stock airboxes + BMC drop-in filters. Our cars are sensitive to aftermarket intakes
