Finished up a few more things.
Got the cae shifter and Transmission back in.havent driven it yet but feels nice working through the gears. You can see how I modified the passenger cupholder. Cut about 30mm out and JB welded it back together. Also had to relocate the key sensor. Used some double sided tape and zip ties to hold it in place next to the shifter. I ordered the arm single exit rear section thinking that would make my life easier. Ended up being a pos that didn't fit properly at all. It mated up to my 4n single mid pipe ok but it hung so low under the diff and out the back I was sure it would be smashed in no time. I hacked it up and tried to redo it but ended up only using the foot section in front of the diff with the hanger. I redid everything using 304 stainless 3.5 straight cuts and a combination of a few different degrees of pie cuts to keep it tight around the diff, curl around the subframe then exit out the passenger side. the back. I tried to save the rear hanger but couldn't even salvage that. I at least copied their hanger and redid it with some 14 g 304 flat bar I had in the scrap bin. Its all connected using vibrant clamps. This makes it easy to swap the resonators in and out quickly. So far I have the big 5 inch diameter one that goes right in front of the diff. I made a cut right after the diff where I will add a section for the ultra quiet at a later time. With the added weight of the extra quiet resonator will probably need to tie into the hanger on the other side. I would be unhappy if I paid somebody to weld this and some of it looks like shit but i enjoy projects like this when they are done. Hoping to hit the track on Friday so need to fix a broken CV clamp that sprayed grease all over, refill coolant and get a few ends back together and should be rolling tomorrow. I know the single exit is not going to be everyone's cup of tea but it makes it easiest to swap resonators in and out quickly depending on how quiet I need to be. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Didn't end up making it out yesterday. Finished putting the car back together and went to replace what I thought was just a outer CV boot clamp. Had replaced one previously with an Amazon one and puked grease all over the inside of my wheel. Unfortunately turned out the boot was torn. Still went to the track and rode along with uncle ben in his f80 and another m235iR which was fun.
Supposed to go out again on Monday so waiting for a split boot to arrive that will hopefully get me out for the evening while I wait for the replacement axle to arrive from FCP. Good news though is the one resonator I have installed knocked the db down to about 100 from about 125 previously. This is with no load just revving in the garage. Will work on the other one once my order of flat bar arrives to make the hangers. Should be able to make it nice and quiet when it needs to be. ![]() comment mettre en minuscule sur un clavier |

alternator belt spaghetti! Lost power on track...car went into limp mode and died....just across the finish line.
Didn't get home until 1 am after waiting for a tow but suspect the tensioner failed. I have deleted AC so have a shortened belt and luckily have another on hand but looks like some wiring got sucked in with a bit of loom wedged under the water pump pulley. Quick look at the tensioner and alternator pulleys they still spin freely. No apparent self destruction there. When your belts failed was the tensioner obviously destroyed ? The tensioner was replaced last year so it's pretty new. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tried connecting MHD to pull codes to see what it but was having some connection issues contacting the DME. Started earlier in the evening so will connect ista tonight to see if it can tell me what got pulled. |

Turbo coolant pump harness was chewed up by the belt. Glad I have a crank seal guard to keep this junk being sucked in.
New genuine tensioner on the way from FCP. Going to try and splice this back together. Maybe add a 3 pin dt connector. ![]() ![]() like png free |

About a year old. It was a gates micro belt to fit after removing AC. I always thought gates made good stuff. Will replace the tensioner and see how it goes.
Already spliced the harness back together with some butt connectors and heat shrink. Will get it plugged back together later and see if the dme is happy. |

I saw in one of Misha Charoudin's videos that they insert like a small hollow pin/metal straw in between the boot and where it grabs the axle to act as like a vent for the hot grease to expel some hot air from

Ordered another GKN axle from Rock Auto which should be here on Monday. FCP was back ordered. I will now have two spares so will try and reboot and vent them. Car is also unhappy from the break down on Monday. Throwing 62 codes including DME. Hoping its related to the battery being being worn down. |

Still waiting on the wiring harness. Should have it in the next day or two. In the meantime replacing the tensioner with a genuine BMW and a new continental belt. With the AC delete I was running what I thought was a gates belt. When I was searching online I ordered through vbamd guys. Turns out it was their inhouse brand equivalent too the gates belt. When I looked at the spare all I could notice was the big made in China stamped on it. I was using a Ina tensioner from bimmerworld which is supposed to be OEM so I am now thinking the china belt didn't like the abuse. The Continental belt I found is pictured below and is from a 2015 BMW hybrid of some sort. Hoping this holds up better than the last one.
For the blown axle boot it sounds like I need some high temp grease and a breather tube. I ordered some 2mm od brass tubes on Amazon which I will insert under the inner lip of the outer boot. Also have some high temp redline moly I will try to repack the CV with. Will post some pics once I have that together. Supposed to go to the track on Friday but need that harness to show up. Just picked up two new sets of perelli's that I want to burn off before the year is out! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

New axle prepped and ready to be installed. Pulled out as much of the black moly as I could and replaced it with redline high temp moly. Used about 1 inch of 2mm od brass tube to vent the boot and zip ties to keep the boot from ballooning at high speed. These are about the size of an aerosol straw but shouldn't collapse when they heat up. Hope this keeps my boots happy.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Also have the new harness mostly in. The waste gate connector is a bit tough with the heat wrap on and the big 4 inch intake pipe in the way. Fingers crossed it's happy and the shorting of the wires didn't fry the dme. |

Maybe make a cover or something to block the radiant heat from exhaust, at least it won't deteriorate/burn up the CV boot.

One of the tracks I frequent where this has been happening is mostly hard left turns with no flow, just on and off, on and off, so the passenger side is taking a lot of abuse. It's also a gkn axle so maybe the boot and grease are not 100 percent up to spec compared to a genuine part. I would be curious to know if the gt4 axles have any breathers on the boots SYT_Shadow |

Well....the new harness didn't help my problem. Looks like the ecu is fried. Snapshot from ista...no dme connection.
![]() zombie my picture Kindly @track/s had a spare ECU that he shipped earlier this week so still hope to be up and running soon. Have 2 days booked at area 27 in Oliver BC in two weeks so need to get this moving. ECU is out and ready to be replaced. ![]() zombie my picture |

Car is finally running again and just in time for my trip to area 27. Turns out the ecu was not blown and I just read the fuse diagram wrong.
Got everything buttoned up with the new continental belt on and didn't last long before I was off the rails again. The belt shredded in about 20 mins of driving and damaged the harness again. Luckily this time it was a clean break and I was able to solder it back together. What I realised with some help was that the grooves in the gates type and continental belts were not deep enough for the s55 pulley grooves. I had a few of the gates style on hand and the first one lasted the better part of a year so I was willing to hedge my bets and roll the dice. I just needed it to last a few days. I reached out to Bimmer world on what they would recommend for a s55 with AC delete. The tech line wasnt sure and was going to get back to me. I then went to get new tires mounted and was sitti g looking at my buddies 235ir and thought the setup looked pretty close to mine. At about the same time bimmerworld got back to me saying the belt from the 235ir is what they recommend. Even better was there was a brand new spare sitting on the shelf in his home garage. Same groove design as the OEM full length belt. Raced home got it installed and ready to roll! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For anyone doing the AC delete here is the proper belt https://www.bimmerworld.com/Main-Dri...5i-Racing.html |
