M4 Surround View
Hello. I've recently bought a used M4 (16 plate, tansezenite blue , white opal leather) and just getting familiar with the options. I would call the dealer but after the bmw genius told me that the comfort access for the boot didn't work by swiping you foot under the rear diffuser I lost confidence.
I have surround view (option S5DL when I run the VIN ) I read the M4 manual which seems to suggest there are 3 modes. Rear camera, front camera and top view. Problem is I cannot get the top view mode. If somebody could shed some light on if top view is included in the "surround view" option or is it just front and back? Many thanks in advance for any help. |

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry, I don't have that option so can't help directly but someone will I'm sure. I had it on an i8 I borrowed for a day and IIRC it was an option when pushing the controller to the left. It may be different on the M4. You also need to post a few pics of your car - it is the law ![]()

As for the 360 view camera, don't confuse it with the camera button near the gear select lever, that would only active the side cameras. To activate the surround view, press the P (parking) button at the bottom next to the gear select lever, you will then see your rear view camera. Now, using your iDrive controller, tilt the knob once to the left and you will see the cursor move to the left pane, the first option would have a checkmark next to it, simply press the iDrive controller on it once to de-activate the parking feature and the camera view will now shift to the top down 360 view |

Many Many thanks. This was driving me mad for the past day or so. Especially as I'm trying to avoid curbing the alloys.
I'll upload some pictures tonight. |

be VERY careful, always be alert with full attention when parking and when going through narrow alley ways and whatnot, if you get distracted and even slightly touch the curb, your rim is damaged. had it happen 3 times to me it's like these wheels are made of plastic, just a small touch and you'll have them dented and badly scratched so please be careful. I repaired them completely and you can't even tell they were damaged but each time I had to wait for a full day for the repairs, not fun.

Re comfort access and boot opening, if you have a carbon diffuser it stops the sensor from working. I have this on my M3. Just one of the downsides of carbon diffuser even though it's OEM.

But I eventually switched again to a more aggressive and bigger rear diff (MTC) because i realized I never use the trunk kick anyway. Lol

I have surround view on my 2016 M4 - it should pop up as an option when you press the button for it on the centre console or when I select reverse on mine, the reversing camera comes up and then pressing the iDrive wheel switches to birds-eye view.
PS which VIN decoder did you use? Can't find one that works!! |

Reviving an old thread since I couldn’t find an answer but is there anyway to get side view and reverse camera in the same screen like the g20 or newer BMW’s? Seems kind of pointless to have only one or the other. Both are useful but in certain scenarios. Having both at the same time would be amazing.
