I don't see the point. If the f80 m3 is as fast and powerful and lightweight as claimed - and we have no performance reviews yet - then what's the point? Why do I need to wait additional time, increase the base price 12-15%, for a level of performance that I'm supposedly only going to be happy with compared to the car that's coming out in a few months?

Seems kinda childish.

In addition, the perf. packs have been equally about a bit of power, some suspension tweaking (usually lower ride height and firmer ride), and some unique aero bits and maybe interior.

I don't care about the aero bits unless they clean up the exterior bumpers which are a bit overstyled, I doubt I'm going to want this thing to ride any lower/stiffer, and we're already at the limits of a RWD cars street driven traction capabilities....so more power is not nearly as appetizing.

That's my take.

ZCP was wheels, lower ride height and steering ratio. M3 competition package will not be as extensive as the M5's. I can promise that. M3 competition is nothing that can't be done aftermarket.

Amusing to think of the people who are waiting for the LCI, that 10mm and 10hp is hardly worth waiting for 36 months but whatever floats people's boat.

What does LCI stand for? Also instead of waiting for a competition package I am sure dinan will have something out long before then. Honestly this car only needs another 40-70-hp. I think 500 crank would be perfect. With a twin turbo should be easily done for hardly any money. Competition package will charge you 8k for 20 hp I bet.

It doesn't "need another 40-70hp". Lighter weight and less thirst are two ways this vehicle has already progressed, all while still being far faster than it's predecessor. LCI is Life Cycle Impulse, but Google could've told you that. I'd recommend you buy Shelby GT, 650 bhp without need for "mods".

I doubt this is true. The S55 (M3/M4) runs a max boost of 18psi with a 10:1 compression ratio. This is exactly the same as the S63 ( M5/M6).

The S63 in competition package guise only has 15hp more than without the competition package. This make me doubt that the ZCP will bring any meaningful hp gain. I guess the main improvments will come in steering and suspension. Also cosmetics as nicer wheels and wheel gap reduction. In summary pretty standard ZCP stuff. Nice but not revolutionary or neccessary. Not worth waiting for IMO. Quality and reliability is another story, that could be worth waiting for.

Bigger power to weight gains will likely come in a GTS/CSL type of car. Lighter with more extensive engine rework, maybe bored and with larger turbos.

I agree.

I had one then a zr1. Sold both. You're going too extreme now. That much hp is useless on the street. As I said 500 hp and 470tq for the weight this car has would be perfect. Ideally I'd say it could use more work to use the existing power but tweaking it further to say spherical bearings would put too much compromise on NVH and DD comfort.

Or if it was easier to drop it to say 3200 pounds that would be great too. Maybe I'll change my mind once I drive it. The only 2 M cars I have driven was the E92 M3 which I hated. Felt like a under powered pig. And an m6 which felt huge and had no road connection what so ever but had the power.

It seems the M4 will finally meet right at the middle and be perfect but we'll see. I'm excited to drive one when my dealer gets theirs in 3 weeks.

I'm waiting for LCI. I just bought my E92 at lease end with comp package. I love my car and not willing to part with it just yet. I am also holding out hope for some better color choices at LCI. My last two were carbon black/jerez black and the lack of a good blue color on the F80 is frustrating and I cannot stand YMB. Also hoping that any new model issues are sorted in the LCI. Til then, I've got a great car.

The question is whether one can wait an additional 6-12 months for such a wildcard.

lol my 400 dollar piggyback beats cp m5s all day and most people with CP on m5s actually dislike the steering and one guy over on m5post is actually trying to fix it via suspension mods lmao. Good luck with it is all I can say especially if Terry gets a piggy out quick for it.

Comp package on the m3 e90s though isn't a different tune map/ steering suspension changes (however minimal) like the m5... Its basically just combining EDC/Power button wheels into one package.

You have a tune only or FBO too? If jb4 only you're not beating an m5; CP or not... In a straight line that is.

Me. I'm waiting till June 2015 to purchase and hoping for a competition pack. Didn't they release the ZCP one year after the M3 came out in 2008?

However I absolutely do not in any way think BMW will up the HP. Why would they? They didn't do it for the E90/92/93. The M3 is not the same as the M5. It has a deep following from enthusiasts, and first model owners would not be happy, also resale and CPO's would be affected.

I have a BMS Stage 1 on my 14' F10 M5... And I've beaten CP M5's [or should I say A CP m5].. Full bolt on for us is Exhaust, Intake, Downpipes, Piggyback.

On the m5 the package is 7k+ far from worth its benefits.

No it was in 2010 for the 2011 models. I remember because thats when I bought my first e92 M3 and it was one of the first ZCP's. The wheels and height were nice but I really do hope they change it up for this F80/F82

I mean look at the standard horsepower, 425?? I was hoping at least 460hp. Im happy with the torque. If they dont oh well. Will just have to tune it

Don't worry, it's not 425. Probably not 460 though either.

The people that aren't happy with the output from the S55 boggles my mind.

We both know it could have been a little bit higher. But im sure theyre holding it down for a comp package. And ill be happy once i have it on my driveway

What I mean is every FI engine from BMW in recent memory has been underrated from the factory.

Once some owners get these things on a dyno, you'll see.

Gotcha. You do know what I mean by bmw tuning it to around 425 for the standard, but for the comp package, it will be re tuned to something higher right?

Who knows. It "might" get a slight bump. Again, look at what the E9X competition package did.

I have no idea what the M3/M4 competition package will look like, but people need to stop comparing potential packages with the E9X competition package. The E9X M3 was a NA engine and short of supercharging the engine or re-boring it (like Dinan did) there isn't a whole lot that cpu tuning can do for the car's performance.

The new M3/M4 will turbo-charged engines that will be highly tunable, in theory at least; we'll need to see how much encryption BMW put into this new ecu. But look at what they did with the N54 engine. Baseline hp/tq was 300hp/300lb-ft. They tuned that engine for the 1M and 335is to get 320hp/330lb-ft and 370lb-ft overboost. And aftermarket tuners were able to get a consistent 400hp/420lb-ft without jeopardizing the engine or the turbos. It is not unreasonable to think that BMW provide a similarly scaled performance bump for the competition package of the M3 and M4.

Again, I have no idea what the actual package will look like, just wanted to let people know that these turbo engines have a bit more tuning potential than the NA ones.
