2014 Turbo S with 24K Miles. Has a clear Satin Expel Wrap on it. Can't believe how much these things fell. From 200K down to 130K which means the original owner probably had 110 or 115K trade in value? So yah don't feel so bad haha it's just a part of owning new high end cars.

Shocking how much better the truck held it’s value vs. the BMW
Which Porsche did you get? Was it new?

This may sound weird but that isn't a bad rate of depreciation. If the previous owner did sell for, let's say, 110k... a total drop of 90k over 36 months = $2500/month (obviously the drop isn't linear but it represents an average). That's "only" 1.25% of the starting value per month... if someone has the numbers for a new Ferrari or Lambo, that'd be interesting to see... haha

Good as new.
Amazing.

But in my experience BMW past 40K miles = trouble.

Still, if you are set on an M4 then the $40k you save by purchasing used more than makes up for the high maintenance costs you'll put up with.

I got my daily driver Lexus with 22k miles, 1.5 yrs of remaining warranty, for $20k under the factory MSRP. I've put at most $3k into routine maintenance.

Yes true it's all relevant. I think if we calculate the depreciation, we use the resale value which is 130K. So the sticker price on the Turbo S was 190K --> 130K is about 68.5% in 3 years. Which isn't that bad. There is a post that discusses high end car depreciation and the Bentley is the worst at up to 50%.
But the average car depreciates 46% in 3 years anyways so like someone said here... it's not surprising the M4 gets a hit.

Yeah, it was new model mania back in the summer of 2014 when the M4 came out so paying sticker price was pretty common. Trucks can get pricey, but they pretty much give you $10K off sticker price when you show up on the lot, then you can negotiate from there.

Devilzmantis: I got a used 991.1 GTS, 7MT, Lava Orange, aerocup kit for $105K. It’s MSRP was $147K, so Porsche not immune to depreciation either as you noted.

I'm M-patiently waiting on a good deal for a white with CF roof, MT M3. Almost jumped on a 2015 6 months ago that had a sunroof for 50k. I'm hoping to stay closer to 40k out the door...

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you're willing to accept some miles and little options. White MTs are among the cheapest, it's just a matter of one popping up.

Why would he "wait" for that. He will have 2 years to make $$$ on his F80 while G80 is brewing...

2015 M4's are going for around $42K-48K for decent mileage and specced out ones. This is assuming no accident history of course, which I'm seeing a couple of for under 40K.

the value of something is determined at the moment you sell it, not when someone else sells his. mine is not for sale, nor will it be.

I think values go down as more sellers are willing to put up with low ballers

I've been in the market for a M4 for quite awhile now (I'm looking for a specific color combo/options)

The only cars I've seen that go for under $45k
- Austin Yellow
- BLK/BLK
- Any car with damage on the Carfax
- 50k miles

I don't understand why people say F80's hold their value better? I see both listed for around the same values for months, there's barely any difference

I disagree. I've been looking for a f80 for a while and M4s are consistently priced lower with fewer miles. I'm almost tempted to get the M4 instead because the prices are so good for the buyer.

There's 2 F80's just posted on the FB group
1 AW, 1 MG, both around 30k miles for 46k and 48k. That's right around what a F82 would go for...

Family member is looking into getting a used M4 and from what I can tell, it looks like they can be found in the 40s range quite easily. Those tend to be lesser equip models, bit higher mileage, rougher shape, and likely with some damage reported on CarFax.

If you want to get one with LED headlights, CF roof, Adaptive Suspension, and other driver assist options, those tend to be closer to the 50k+ range.

Honestly it's a great car to buy in the 50k-60k range and should be moderately reliable in comparison to the E9X. Price is bound to come down as any Euro car, but granted if you keep it in decent condition they still hold better value than a regular 3/4 series. Those easily drop down to 1/3 value over time while the Ms tend to drop a bit in the 1st 1-4 years and hold steady as they age.

If you look around for E9X M3s, any in decent condition with moderately low mileage are still selling for 30-40k easily.

I went searching through the F80 market.

I stand by my statement.

For every F80 I found, I could find a F82 with similar mileage options that is identical.

Their may be some outlier examples of both but for the most part they are priced the same

M4s are definitely a little cheaper and easier to find. I think there were more M4s produced than M3s.

I spent six months to find my F82. A good F80 example is slightly more expensive than an F82 because there are just not many out there. I was originally looking for an F80 and eventually settle for my F82.

Color-wise, YMB sellers are asking for the most money. I found the black/black combo provides the best value.
