I never understood why people feel the need to control the valves..

Just use your right foot. See a cop? Ease on the throttle or upshift. No big deal. Same goes w/ the neighbors. I leave the house at 6:15am and no one bats an eye.

Pull the fuses or pull the plug. Fuses disable other features so I pull the plug.

Link for how to further down that post in that thread.
Thanks

In which software update did they make this change. Wondering if my 2018 (7/17 production) would fall under what you say is recent software?
My car (April 2016 production) came with 58.3 and last year the dealer updated it to 61.x. Now I have been noticing valves are closing even in 3rd and sometimes in 2nd too depending on the RPM. I also have a valve controller so that's how I can tell.

its funny this thread is up. I had a huge headache after gym and literally drove home up windows up no radio for first time I think LOL. I have remus and aa midpipe so my car is def louder than stock. I closed the valves and windows and it was smooth as silk on the way home. I think that truly is why I love this car, It can be so tame and quiet; quick and agile, or just brutal straight line acceleration

I just like the blips when flap is always open. Even in sport plus when I down shift it's so quiet when they're plugged in.

i hear you. i really wish it was on or off with these valves. there are way to many determinations to decide if they are open or not. sport/sportplus should always be open imo. its fuckin sport mode lol. And efficent should be closed at all times possible. yet this shortcoming is the reason ill have to blow money on a valve controller. I hate that valves are closed at low rpm. Like how am I am supposed to have nice sounding low end revs when I slip in the clutch

I typically leave mine open all the time but I find that my car idles better when they are closed when the car is very cold. It could just be me, or perhaps the loud cold start rumble but I leave them closed until the car is warmed up.

If you have upgraded exhaust open flaps will make it too loud for mornings on cold start and can cause negative reaction from people around u

No need to have them open now since my BPM tune changed valve control to "CS settings"

The car is much louder now and valve closes only at cruising speeds.

1st, 2nd and 3rd are very aggressive in S and S+ since the valves are open even at around 25% throttle

Oh and plus GTS roar start up

Sorry if this was already answered elsewhere (still new and have been looking through the old threads for answers), but does leaving open the valves permanently have any affects on:

-Gas mileage
-Performance
-Anything else mechanical

Or is it more of a sound regulator? Just wondering if leaving the valve open permanently is the same as keeping Sport+ on permanently. For me, the sound of open valve in Sport+ is really nice even for my stock exhaust, but I noticed that Sport+ uses so much gas that I would keep it in efficient during commutes.

Thank you in advance.

The only mechanical issue you might run into is the valves getting stuck in open position if they are not closed in a very long time.

I don't think Sport+ keeps the valve open all the time still. Sport+ does use more gas because it keeps the turbos spooled up. I think sport is a good happy medium. Efficient throttle IMO is very dull.

I see. Thank you for the insight. On another note, do you know if tunes like BM3 has options to "permanently" leave the valve on? I was reading that there are ways to adjust the settings but wasn't sure if that's just as good as the unplugging method.

Burger sells the CAN Flap module which plugs in OBD. Becomes an on/off/auto (stock) switch that you control with the button on the end of the wiper stalk

Sounds like a fart can if they stay open all the time and another reason for the police to pull you over for noise pollution.

I just do BimmerLink, setup an automation on my iPhone to auto open the app when connecting to CarPlay. With the App preset to exhaust flap open, it does it all for me.

So, I went ahead and got this done. So far I am liking the sound even when driving in efficient. However, I started noticing how fast the gas drains even while driving in efficient mode (even cruising on the highway). I might also be more aware of the gas mileage now that I got this done. Hopefully it's just me being paranoid.

Zero effect on MPG, purely an acoustics change. However I did notice the same, but chalked it up to being more on the throttle because I enjoyed the sound more! haha
