OK, thanks. Hopefully they'll get the R7's in that size. They are a tad stickier than the old R6 in my experience.

32-34 sounds a little low for the F8X, that's what I use on my E36 (a much lighter car). I'd shoot for 35-36, which is what my Corvette buddies usually use.

That's a phenomenal time for a close to stock car for VIR full course! Modded C7 Vette's I've seen with skilled drivers are hard pressed to match that time there... Great job/skill

Thanks mate! I really cannot emphasize how amazing this car is (not my car, I only got 3 laps as I was trying to put data for a friend's car):

I agree I didnt anticipate running this time. Few contributing factors:

1) It was cooler and the car just felt really really strong due to low humidity/coolness.
2) The RE71R should no way be considered a street tire. They are grippier than the RA1/R888 offering and much better than PSS by a long shot.
3) I made sure I lined up first so as to not hit any traffic (but on my 3rd lap I did start to creep up on slower folks and had to bail).

Observations/Improvements:

1) Do NOTHING. Yes this car is that good. I thought it would push with stock camber, it did not. Very easy to manage, granted with stock camber outside tire wear is evident (little bit) but its not needed. The cost/benefit for a street car (inside wear to save outside); its better to leave it stock.

2) I thought the rear 275s would be a limiting factor (especially since I run 265/295 on my E9X as I found running square was overwhelming the rears in my own car). No the F8X it wasnt a limiting factor. True you can lay power down better with wider tires and can stuff up to 305 but expect marginal or slight gains; meaning to say tire width is not a limiting factor which you can blame for adverse lap times.

3) Brakes are awesome. Stock Castrol SRF with Pagid yellows. Unlike my E9X these last a fair bit, believe its the rotor cooling (temps dont creep as high as E9X). I have driven CCB equipped cars on track (MCLaren 650S etc.) but in my own car, which I intend to get, I am getting the steel brakes as I cant honestly say CCB would be worth the performance $ (sure flame me).

Unlike previous gens where you had to work around adding camber, dealing with spitting steering fluid, subframe weakness, etc. This car is done REALLY well. My suggestion to this group, keep your car as is. Save the money, car needs NOTHING. I had a debate with a friend of mine and was able to prove it with data in hand. Look at the deacceleration curves, it brakes as linear as my 997S which is lighter and is supposed to have better monoblocks.

Than's car had spacers and HR springs which I doubt does anything for laptimes, he did it for aesthetics. Car did have DP but I chose to run stock tune keeping it more stockish, ran neck to neck with another F80 to confirm. I dont know what it would be like with higher boost (says some 100hp) because I wouldnt have gotten a right feel for the car then.

Just my 2 pennies of an opinion. Love this chassis. It really will run with 997GT3s and C7Z06s on the track (having first hand experience, not guessing) and you can drive back home to take your family out for dinner in comfort. Same day, folks in NASA GTS3 with full aero, JRZed up, stripped, built motor, fresh Hoosiers, BBK, modified diff etc. were in the same ball park. F8X is that 'mental'.

Castrol SRF, RE71R, Pagid Yellows. That and add an F8X to the mix .... Enjoy!

Regards,

Lutfy

Wow, probably the best write up I've seen on here! Thanks for sharing your experience. And that time in only 2 hot laps of trying LOL!? Even more impressive to know. I've already ordered the Swift spec R springs (which are supposedly superior than H & Rs, and decided to go with a conservative square 12mm f/r spacer set-up as to not disturb the stock balance of the car. After reading your opinion (and times) Im very glad I decided on that

WOW Very impressive for a 4 door full weight street car!

So if you had to back out to a mostly stock setup / Pilot Super Sports and Adaptive M suspension but kept the race pads, do you think you could break 2:10? I imagine the tires are worth 3 seconds or so.

FYI: I have a hard time hitting 2:12s with a 997s on R888s.
Never took the Cup car to that track though...

Its hard to guess until I really put it through on the track. My comfortable and confident guess is 2:08 is achievable consistently with stock tires and track pads.

My rationale:

My E90 broke into higher 2:12 with OEM wheels/PSS, suspension except Pagid Yellows (stock camber). Saying F8X is 4 seconds a lap faster at VIR all else equal is believable just by given how hard it pulls from corner exit (especially at ex-Oak Tree). Add to the fact the F8X chassis is more refined both in stiffness/feel and ability to drive at the limit and lighter.

I need to take my Cup car there too (albeit a different Cup car than yours

What did you run in the 997 GT3 and Z06 at VIR?

I ran 2:08 in a stock C7 (non-Z06) (except carbotechs and SRF) on a very hot day (mid 90's), I would expect the Z06 to be significantly faster.

Also, it's only one test, but the Z06 DESTROYED the M4 at the lightning lap.

Was the Z06 you drove a Z07 package car or a non-Z07 package car?

Cheers mate,

Video on post 56.

Than whose car I was driving had to run the stock tune since car went into limp before (he is a coder and tinkered with it). Post 60 I put data comparison to my stock motored (except SS F1 exhaust) and stock motored (997S). While both cars do 145MPH, the F80 did a 149 consistent with other folks (back straight).

That's a very respectable time mate especially in that heat!

You are right my mistake meant c6, sorry about the confusion. Meant to write current gen m3 can run with yester gen z06 and Gt3; maybe a tad off but in typical track day setting be very much in the same league meaning you won't be blown away nor will you blow by.

No vir info but at summit clocked 1:22 in a stock gt3 running behind a z06 both had track pads and pilot cup tires. Neck to neck where the gt3 could put the power down corvette would make it up with slight edge in power. Patryk (he has a white dct camber plated and running re71 staggered on 18s) Put in 22 at summit main.

At a nasa event I saw a current gen z06 pull a 1:18 stock then a 1:17 on Hoosier.

http://www.mylaps.com/en/classification/3524440 Michael Fitzpatrick

New z06 is in a different league and as fast as a mclaren 650. It will DESTROY the m4 yes.

Cheers

I ran 2:14 at Daytona today. don't know where that stands but it felt good. I've got another whole day tomorrow so I'm sure I'll go faster.

6mt m3 on stock contis. carbotech xp10s, pss10s, tc kline plates. highest top speed I saw indicated was 161 coming into the trioval. Typically the speed was less though, about 156 to 158. I wasn't really fixated on watching top speed.

I was hoping for a Daytona 2:05 with that M car stock. Most tracks I've noticed a stock m3/m4 running a little faster than my stock 997s on r888. And I was running 2:08 in that car. My gt3cup ran that track in 1:53 and my neon chump 2:37

FYI. I think you are scrubbing off speed way too early for turn 1 go much deeper, try getting on gas earlier out of 3, then hit 4 harder. Go considerably faster thru 8. Get on gas sooner out of bustop (if you can) and stay on it full until t1 entry. Take that with a grain of salt.... I wasn't in your car, just looking at the video, and I'm a rear engine guy. So I could be totally off.
I bet there is another 10 seconds to be had.
Thanks for posting the video! Really helpful. Please post a follow up of Sunday lapping.

Curious though. I thought these cars topped out at 155
