PFC 08 squealing on track

So I know these squeal like crazy on the street but mine are also squealing like crazy on the track. It's so distracting and makes me not want to hit the brakes when I need to. I know that's a mental block but is this normal? I didn't brake hard enough this weekend and lost it at Grattan because I underbroke and understeered and it's like when they start to squeal I want to stop braking.

It's every time I medium firmly hold brake pressure. All day every day.

I used Brembo b quiet but I don't know that it did anything.

Here are some pictures of the back of the pads after the track weekend.

Any suggestions?

Mine made terrible squealing on Sonoma Raceway as well... I felt the same as you that the noise made me less confident in pressing the brake pedal.

While on a more brake demanding track like Laguna Seca, the squealing disappeared once the pads got up to the working temperature.

Sound & performance wise I root for Pagid RS29; while from the cost perspective I'll definitely picked up the PFCs. They lasted way longer and costed cheaper!

Had the same on my first experience with Ferodo DSUNO last month. I'm used to the DS2500s being silent on track. The DSUNOs scared me the first few sessions squeeling like a banshee just trying to bleed a bit of speed with light braking.

Happy to take them off your hands if you don't like them.

The squealing is completely normal in my experience. And, as you point out, focusing on that is really just a mental block. It usually goes away once the pads are up to temp on the track.

Seemed like it got worse at the end of the weekend. Even when they were super hot it squeaked like mad. I might try Pfc 11?

11 is quieter for sure, but once at temp even the 08 is pretty quiet

Lol, I got black flagged once due to the noise. They thought maybe the pads were done, but I showed them how much meat was left. That being said, the noise is distracting and I'll be trying out a different pad next time.

This didn't seem to be the case for me. Is it a case of the track not being super brake heavy? Or me not bedding them in correctly? I didn't really bed them I just put them on and then went to the track the next day.

I've been using PFC pads since the beginning and have never bedded them in. That's part of the joy of using PFC

I'm sure it's possible they are not reaching their target temps and that's why they are still squealing. The 11 is quieter on the street which is why I run that now.

Yea 08s are unbearable on the street.

I use 08s and they squeal if you are not hitting them hard enough IMO lol.

Yeah, in my experience 08s are loud all around but they last (with some additional rotor wear) and are very consistent lap after lap. The 11s are better day to day but I chew them up especially up front.

I've had "some" noise when they are cool and under moderate braking but nothing remotely close to being black flag worthy. When I hear them on track, I usually take it as a sign that I'm braking too lightly and I should either brake later or already be on throttle...

Totally normal -- once you start getting faster and braking harder that will go away on the track.

Since I'm too lazy to swap them out over the summer for every track day, I just keep them in for the street. That is a surefire way to recalibrate your brain to get used to the squeal!

Track pads usually squeal when there is an insufficient pad material transfer layer on the rotors. Doing a good bedding will ensure a proper and even transfer layer is applied on the rotor. Without bedding, the squealing should go away after a few hot laps.

Only time my brakes squeal is because I’m not going fast enough. I don’t bother bedding either.

Even with bedding PFC08's squeal like a pig in heat. I just swap out after track days. They never got quiet except on fast tracks after they warmup, and even then, they would squeal like mad by next session.

interesting, when i ran 08's on my e46 m3, they rarely made noise even on the street. especially on the track they were particularly quiet, unless it was a cold out lap where they needed some extra heat to get into them before operating at temp.

I think it has to do some with the track. At gingerman they didn't squeal at all - very fast track very hard on brakes. At grattan they squeal like crazy I think because braking is lighter all around through the twistys and you can't really brake hard or else you'll overbrake every time.

i have RS 29 for years, then 08 now 11. both PFC do not squeek once driven at the track for a day . otherword they're properly bedded in. pfc far better than rs29 , lasts longer and cheaper and consistent bite even if you run with 1 hour

I guess experiences vary. I've been daily driving my car on the PF08 for almost two months now and found them to be decently quiet (it has to be said I have not done that many miles due to working from home in the current context, but still). They slap way less than the RSL29 and do peep a little, but nothing like the horrendous squeals I would get from the PF08 on my E92 after the transfer layer wore out.

08s are loud but at operating temps, they're quiet. Any chance you glazed them?
