Yes! The Miata community buys/sells these cars all the time in the $6-8k range.
I thought about possibly getting a cheap track car due to the M3 high cost (track insurance, consumables, hardware upgrades). Currently I see myself doing 5 to 6 track weekends over a year. I can definitely see myself spending $5k to $6k yearly, but driving the M3 is so much fun! But the idea of wrecking the M3 can definitely hold me back a bit than say a $8k Miata. I think once I get close to seeing double digit track weekends per year, then I'll start looking at a separate track car.

I mean maybe try a corvette? A lot of my buddies around me all tracking their C7 Z06 and C7 Grand Sports. Those cars are no joke, GS is able to run similar LapTimes with street tire while I'm running R compound on my F82. Also they never seem to heat soak in stock form, while sometimes I do feel a bit of heat soak at the end of the session in the F82

If that is your price range, you'd be better served getting a Cayman GTS (the one with the 4.0L GT4 motor, but slightly detuned and no aero.)

That's certainly in the mix, for sure! Only I'd rather buy a 981 GT4 for $90k than a 4.0 GTS with a markup.

Either way, lucky and blessed to have these "options"!

you should have no problem getting 75K in CA coast. price depends on location....

Your heart is set on the Porsche already. Whats holding you back? If you already lost interest in the CS then I think now is the time to make the move while you still can. If tracking a car with the sticker price of the CS didn't stop you I'm not sure why the price of a GT4 will? You have to be realistic with your goals and choices. If I could afford a GT4 or GT3 or hell even a Bugatti you'd see it on the track regardless of the cost as I bought it to drive it which I can see you do with your cars. I'd say if the stars line up make the move to a GT4 don't settle for a GTS or Miata get what you want and if you can make it happen you won't regret it. Personally I'm keeping my f80 because I love the car and nothing in this price range can really compare. for you however it seems the love affair has died and you're ready to move on. at some point I'll add a GT3 or GT4 and continue adding to the stable if and when I can because the love is still there. Hope this helps and sorry for the long post.

I saw VW mentioned as an option above. I advise against Haldex and FWD track cars even with diff upgrades. My Golf R was not fun.

also, consider that if your local/primary track is fast like WGI or VIR then you'll feel extra slow in a momentum car...

I can have a blast with an NA miata at cute places like Lime Rock but the car is a dog at the big boy tracks.

The GOLF R would be a daily that I could occasionally take to a local small tight track once and awhile. Did it not hold up well?

For me the driving dynamics were impossible to get used to. Haldex is really FWD biased so the front tires get overwhelmed if you want to turn while adding gas or brake. supposedly the MK8 can send more power to rear. The bias might even be adjustable like the ford focus rs thingy or the Yaris GR which I wish we would get here in the states...

Wait, you guys don't get the Focus RS? WOW
Thats a shame. It's an incredible car.
But you get the Megane RS Trophy and Trophy R, right?

Car prices are insane... keep my M3 CS or get a GTS/GT4?

To clarify we have the Focus RS just not the Yaris GR.

Back on topic, I vote to keep your CS. The F80 platform is hands down the best and most capable dual duty car available. Pads, high temp brake fluid, tires some camber and your good to go.

If you get hard core then you can change direction.
