A few quick notes on the Cayenne S and on the topic of enthusiasm. It has only made mine grow for the Porsche brand. They just make great cars inside n out that perform and do what they are supposed to do. It's hard to explain, I know you pay through the nose for them but I actually feel like I'm getting what I paid for. It surprisingly is somewhat fun to drive, has some steering feel and the S is plenty powerful for a DD. I can't imagine what the GTS/Turbo are like. The 14 ways are amazingly comfortable and you can adjust them to a great driving position. The new to me infotainment is very good, still not iDrive good though IMO. The air ride is a must on these if anyone ever looks at one. It's a hair floaty in comfort but sport is perfect. Even with 21s it rides great. I'm not sure where the complaints are about it riding stiff but everyone is different. I don't think anyone here in this thread would complain about the ride. So yah, still not an SUV fan but if I have to drive one this is the one for me. It's about as perfect of a blend of somewhat sporty/while retaining a great ride and luxury as it gets. My wife absolutely loves it and she usually doesn't get excited about cars.

Speaking of enthusiasm and older cars I just picked up 2011 e90 335i sport manual no-idrive as my dd. I think these cars are the best dd. I do not understand folks that need suvs and trucks to drive on hwys, local roads and grocery shopping. I am planning to keep it for a long time and am not planning to purchase anything new in the next several yrs.
When it comes to new tech some of it is natural progress and some helpful tech like backup cams and a lot of it is gizmos for manuf to charge more. Most people do not use many of these features anyways. From a tech point of view these gizmos make those cars as throaway gadgets after few yrs, similar to cell phones. How about that nav from 2003? Basically the latest models will not be servicable by most independent shops due to s/w and complexity when warranty expiries or manuf stops supporting them. Therefore the cars that are built well and can be serviced will hold values and appreciate in my opinion as not everybody has or wants to spend 500-1000/mo on car pmts. So to summarize this, bmw took a significant departure in 2012 after E series models. The only F series I would consider is M2/3/4. Some other F models may be ok like 240/340/440 but not great due to diluted and numb driver-machine interface. It may be the case that bmw enthusiasts stay frozen in time and reject new models but continue to hoard older ones similar to air cooled 911 enthusiasts. I have nothing in common with the new XM and consider it an oxymoron. Don't really understand bmw rebranding. Maybe it's gadgets and bling. I can tell you one thing. E9x sport has better steering than any F series M. |

I brought the CLS in for an oil change and walked out to this!
Talked to the owner, he traded his M5 for this as an early Hanukah present, and has this alongside an M4 racecar. He got the sofa's as he plans on driving it a lot. Super jealous!

This thread is really depressing.. It's sad to see where BMW is going and there's nothing we can really do about it unfortunately. BMW isn't going to listen to us and proceed to keep going this is awful direction. I'll admit. I'll never be able to afford a 911 nowadays and it looks like my F80 will be my final real all around great M car. It's definitely going to be a keeper.

LCI E90 M Sport is peak 3 Series - I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. We had an E91 LCI from 2009 to 2018 - if it were a six cylinder, probably would've still kept it, but even despite the lack of displacement, it was a great car and I still miss it. Looked like a BMW 3 Series at first glance, had a mean face in M Sport guise with the angel eyes yet wasn't overly aggressive, it was the right size and the cabin was cosy with better materials than the F3x (don't know about the G20, I'm going to find out in a few weeks). Mine already had EPS, so can't comment on hydraulic steering, but they're a few key suspension mods away from being top handling cars. It's got all the comfort features you need today, too... Test drove an F30 340i with the M Performance LSD and power kit; it was nice but was left feeling quite meh about it. Still put in an order for an Individual build, though backed out after the 6MT was discontinued and soon after found my M3 for not too much more money. Still thinking of going for a G20 as a DD, but it just still doesn't tickle my pickle like the E90 did back in the day. Maybe after driving it, I'll hopefully change my mind.

My father said something to me, years and years ago. He said that, once you drive one car, you generally know how to drive everything else. At that time, he was still able to drive well and not get me sick on the passenger side. I only start to notice this myself after my first car that I had little trouble adapting from car to car, sedan to sedan. Porsche cars however, were a little different. It took me, slightly longer to get used to the Macan but this has been the first time that I am actually a bit unsure how I will handle a car like the GT4. So, it is both exciting and scary at the same time since I don't like getting cars at this price range due to my OCD and anxiety but here I am. Speaking of which, my detailer will FINALLY get to my car next Monday. Which means she will be home soon, hopefully within a week. My dealership has warrantied that plastic piece lol but it will take 4 to 6 weeks... for a hard, plastic piece to get from Germany to here in the States haha.

i've driven quite a few cars and porsche just does it best. everything makes sense: the driving position, working on it, there is no dumb clutch delay valve, the steering is one of the best on the market, if you opt for pdk it is perfect in every situation every time no matter what, the panel gaps are minimal. everything is in balance: brakes, hp, chassis.
then again it makes sense why they are so good because they never deviated from the rear engine flat 6 formula. they've had 50 years+ to perfect this car. As for BMW... the f80 will probably be my last new one. its a very good car but the s55 doesn't have much character. i'll either go to an e92 m3 or see what other offerings are out there. car market is just too insane right now to justify dumping an f80 for a similar miles lci e92 for the same money.

I mean, in the past, what % of 330 owners were repulsed by the M3? Wasn't the M3's core market BMW fans looking for the top spec 3-series? So what's changed now? The "oh well, you're just not the core market" arguments kinda fall apart when you consider, if BMW isn't going after their EXISTING core, then who do they believe their NEW core is? And where are they? The ONLY two answers that make any sense are: * Early teens * 0.1%ers Any other answer is equivalent to "fewer customers than we have today"
