I'm surprised the guy managed to hold the brake pedal down the whole time during that 360 flip lol

If an F80 is this slippery... think about an F87. Perhaps the car of the best drivers in the world 😂

How is even physically possible to bounce that much off the side panels? The amount of flex the chassis would have gone through to rebound the whole car like that would be incredible.
Brutal thread. Wouldn't wish it on anybody. I have experienced what this guy went through: oversteer into the corner (to the right) on a wet on ramp under slightly more throttle than should have been given. I corrected quickly in the other direction and the car suddenly accepted the input taking me 90 degrees perpendicular to the direction of travel (to the left). I corrected quickly back and it accepted that input too and left me perfectly in the direction of travel, but now at a standstill. No damage at all but ordered winter tires the same day.

This is a head scratcher because it looks like the driver brakes hard but the car doesn't slow down at all. Maybe they were trying to do a smokey turn for the camera? Or maybe it was on worn rubber. Or both. I dunno.... but you'll learn real quick that playing with this car in DSC off is a serious gamble on backroads and even if you're on an actual track you 100% need to know what it can and can't do.

All BMWs do this when it detects a collision.

"Did he hit something in the grass? The flip seemed so hard and abrupt"
Absolutely . . he braked right into a rockfall boulder at a 30 deg angle, and local geology played fulcrum on the LH front tire. You can see the rock debris scattering after impact. Had he stuck to his lane, blind curve would have been a nothing-burger. Instead, he stuck the landing. |
