Drove a loaded and decked out 340i xDrive - at $88k why not just get an M3?

It had every M Performance part available. I liked the M Performance power kit and exhaust. It was all wheel drive which was different. Has anyone seen one of these on the street? I don't see the point except to advertise.

The mid 50k models probably can be bought at 5% off... leaving u in low 50s... which is about as much as you'd want to pay for a car that will be worth 35 in a year...

On a tangent, but why is there no 440?

No way would I spend that on even an M car. I just picked most of the crazy options available, no M performance stuff and only got to 58k.

Somebody will lease it (hopefully and not pay 100k for this sucker after interest etc.) because they feel like they need xDrive for traction/safety etc.

I bought a CPO 09' E92 335XI that had a sticker price of $52k (base MSRP in 2009 was $44,100). I picked it up for $32k in 2012 with around 48k miles on it -- so $20k depreciation over four years. Not quite one year as you exaggerate...

Regardless, I too would never buy a 340i or any equivalent competitor new for over 50k. The options for better, lightly used cars at that price point are way more attractive. So is ponying up the extra cash to buy a brand new M, AMG, RS, etc.

You go ahead and trade in that 54k car, a year later... let me know how that goes... especially when one can be bought for 49k new.

A year of depreciation, probably about 10k depending on mileage. Not sure what you're getting at though - I wouldn't buy these types of cars new.

When I sold mine after 4 years of ownership, it had depreciated $13k ($3250/year).
