991S is a better car. PDK is better than M DCT and they both are top notch DCT.

Bose sound system is excellent.

And,,,, don't you love the PORSCHE Crest?

Having owned both cars, the M4 is definitely a more purposeful as a daily car. Not to say you can't daily the 911, and it's definitely more fun.

Driving experience? 911 with no doubt in my mind. I think many agree the PDK is the superior DCT. And that sweet sweet sound of 991 PDK shifts is music to my ears.

I say if you mostly drive alone and rarely need 4 seats, I would pick the 911 (With warranty, CPO, PPI?). I do prefer mine with ducktail or aero.

M4 for the serious daily driver and passengers or hauling stuff around.

Ultimately though, I would pick the P car. I can deal with the all the other compromises because it puts such a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Follow your heart mate.

Although sound might be subjective to each individual, I wouldn't say Bose is excellent :/ It's okay at best.

I've come to realise that even with superior systems like Burmester or B&O, the 911 cabin/panels just aren't that great pushing out good sound.

For a daily with more than 2 passengers def m4 but like others said if it's just you.... then 911. PDk is better than dct but slightly. More crisp and intuitive and just a bit faster if you can imagine that.

Another thing, if you love torque rich cars then the m4 as torque is king on daily roads to move- but if you like high rev engines and great top end then the 911

Engine sound and exhaust id prefer 911

Money wise - as long as you get a great %rate finance is always better than lease imo ...

Good luck! Go with what you want.

Keep in mind your service cost for p cars are not going to be same as bmws get ready for $450 oil changes at the dealer and $250 if you go to a private shop.

Gone are the days of any local shop doing a change for 50 bucks

I disagree with this statement. I had a 2015 991 GTS with Bose and I found it a terrible sound system.

If the payments are the same, then I say purchase over lease.

If you need the extra seats, then the M4. If not, the 991 will never cease to put a smile on your face - so it gets my vote.

^ thanks guys for the feedback.

this will be my daily driver and i don't need back seats and a trunk so i can definitely be able use the 911.

the biggest thing on my mind is financing a 13 car vs leasing a brand new 17.
if i do 5 year finance, payments will be finished in 2021 making the car 8 years old...

but if you lease it, you wont have a car at all at the end. And then youd have to get another car and make more payments...

I wouldn't rest the decision on lease vs. finance imo since you don't need to keep the car for the entire finance term if you don't want to. I just traded my E92 M3 for a 2015 GTS. Like you, I didn't need the practicality of the M so decided to make the jump. I was also lusting after a 991 for a long time and couldn't get it out of my head, despite how much I loved the M.

I have the Bose and would agree that I am not blown away by it. But I've also had supposedly better stereos in other cars that I was also underwhelmed by. Besides, I have PSE so rarely use the stereo!

991.1 C2S is a much better car than the M4.
The competition package closes that gap, but 991.1 C2S still gets my vote.
I was in a similar dilemma recently, mine was 2015 M4 DCT Executive 19" wheels. I sold it and got a 2014 911.1 C2S Cab in 7MT, GT silver, sport exhaust, PASM, 14 way seat, Bose sound, sport steering wheel, sport chrome, all with 7700 miles for $89000 at Porsche of Rockville. I have never been so happy with an auto purchase. Btw, Steven Mueller my sale consultant was just about perfect. The best sale consultant I have ever experienced.
Get the 991 or you will be looking for one in a couple of years. I am a living proof of that.
Btw, I gave my M4 away. They just don't hold their value.
Hope that is helpful.
Good luck in your decision.

In terms of performance and speed they should be similar- now the new 991.2 is a beast and no comparison.

I test drove both before picking my ZCP f80m3. I wasn't impressed in how the power was delivered in the 911s. It is a special car, but you need to rev it out all the time in order to feel the cars full potential. The torque in the M3/M4 is more fun for city/daily driving. I like the potential in the M4 if you are choosing to modify.

I'd go 997.1 TT instead of 991.1 c2s, personally.

Used 911 definitely has the chance to be more costly due to repair. Go with what makes you happy!

Did you see the thread about new c7z06 discounted to the low $70k range? You have to really want a 911 to overlook that kind of perfomance

I think the 991.1s would be great on a track but I felt it underwhelming on the street.. the lack of torque is annoying and once u get the m4 tuned the m4 is just much more powerful and practical

The 991.2 reminds me of the older turbos. 11.5s ET =some serious speed for a s model.

As for Bose my Macan 2017 and newer sound way better than the 2016 Bose. I don't know if that is true for the 911 but maybe since the PCM was updated.

For the OP it sounds like you're running up your budget. Why not try the M2?

The BMW M and 911 has the highest insurance rates FYI.

^ i don't want to spend anymore than i am on my m4 lease on order. not only is this my 5th bmw lease, but if the opportunity presented itself i feel it is a good time to upgrade to porsche.

i found a perfectly speced car but my biggest hold back is it is a 2013 (im used to having current model year from leasing), it has no warranty (i always had a warranty), and potential costs (although generally reliable, doing any work in the engine requires the damn bumper to come off that that is a major pita).

leasing a porsche does not make any sense nor would i buy a new one even at invoice knowing i will take a ~$30k depreciation hit after first year.

need to think about it more....

+1. Also go drive the M2 cause it's that good. I had a f80 and now M2.

I prefer the M4 over the M6 so my preference is the M2. Smaller cars are just quicker in its feet and I like the driving feel.

Not trying to detract anything from M2, but just wanted OP to be aware hardware between M2 and M3/M4 is the same and M2 steering software updates are applied to M3/M4 also

Obviously the "feel" of small car can be different, but just wanted OP to have the up to date info and not be swayed by posts from 2015 from the earliest cars

OP, if you are worried about costs the reason I mentioned the older turbo is that it is seeming like it is as the bottom of its depreciation curve. 996 TT looks to have stabilized in the low to be 40s and 997 TT looks like its doing the same in the mid 60s.

Yes, people say the new M4 with performance pack feels like a M2 but the price is so much higher. I figured he can save $ by going M2 which is tad smaller and drives better on the track unless he is very good.

As for Porsche, the 991 is so much nicer. The 996/997 is too expensive when you figure maintenance and repair cost if something fails. All you get is more steering feel but so much more going against it such as pendulum effect to the max for novice drivers, dated interior, small brakes, bad finance rates on used car, and crappy stereo and poor NVH compared to the 991.

Lease is too expensive unless there is a business write-off. My vote is M2 or between the two the 991.

depends what you're looking for really, both great options, but if you're looking for a "sports car", then the p-car is the winner by a good margin. M4 is great for ppl like me who want it "all" in one car, to do everything...and be ready-to-go at the track as well...
